Re: Lancashire hot pot ....

Hi there,
Just a little information on the origins of Lancashire Hot Pot.

This was a dish cooked by families where both man and wife were working full time, usually in the cotton industry. The wife would prepare the dish, put it into the oven, and when both came home at lunchtime, the meal was ready!

A little story that happened to me!
My Mother who worked in the cotton industry prepared a dish something similar to a hot pot, and put it on the sideboard with a note attached, which read “Ronnie (my Brother) when you go to school, take the dish to Auntie Mary’s”. My Aunt (who lived across the road) would then put the dish into her oven, so that at lunchtime when my Mother came home it would be ready.
When Mother came home at lunchtime the dish was still on the sideboard, with note reading:
“I’m late for school; our Philip will take the dish to Auntie Mary’s. Sorry Mum but I’m also late”.
My bum was sore for days after that.

Cheers
