Moulded Plugs

Bit of a daft question I suppose, but thought it best to ask anyway.

I have a midi hi-fi that has a fixed moulded plug. I want to run the mains wire down the back of some shelves, but of course it won't fit down the back with the plug on the end, so could I cut the plug off and fit a new one of the same amp? The wires inside the flex are the same as a normal wire aren't they?

I assume this would be ok, but can anyone say for sure?

There's no reason at all why you shouldn't do it.

All done and working again. I just swopped the fuse from the moulded plug into the new plug. Looks much better without the wire running down the front of the shelves. :D
