birth certificates!
 
Just been trying to get copies of mine and tylers birth certificates for our passports (at last:D) ... rung them up thinking i could get them both on the same day... go to burnley to get mine then onto keighley to get ty's,nice little trip out and go visit some family.....NO!!! i have to get tylers from keighley (where he was born) and mine from....PRESTON! why??
what a complete faff!

my mother in law had the same problem, is it something to do about the year u were born or where u were born? im not really sure but make sure u check before u go as my mother in law was given the wrong postcode and ended up on the other side of preston lol

It's because Lancashire have centralised all their records. Probably not enough space at each register office and some of them have been closed anyway.

If you were registered in Blackburn then you will still be able to get copies from Blackburn. It's not part of Lancashire :D

Forgot to mention you can also order online from Preston.

what makes me laugh about birth certificates is that ANYONE can go down to the register office and get ANYONES birth certificate, all you need is a bit of info about them..eg..who their parents are and their date of birth, its bloody mad if you ask me

yep, i asked what id i would need and they said nothing all you need to know is when and where you were born, your birth name, your parents names at birth.....

Very easy ema seeing that there have just been 3000 blank passports and visa stickers stollen in transit, They reckon they're worth £1700 on the black market, is out safe with this government:eek:

It seemed it was quite easy for the dead 'Mr. Canoe' to obtain a passport, and to travel to the States, and to Panama.

So much for increased security measures.

The Preston records office is on the docklands . There is no public transport that goes anywhere near the office.

You may want to contact the registrar in both offices before going as in some places you need to give them up to 4 days notice to write them,
