Re: Mouldy Bread

I make my own so it doesn't contain preservatives.
I slice and freeze what I know I'm not going to need next day.
It helps to store bread in the fridge overnight.

Its the same with veggies pip. Keep them in the fridge as well, it retains their vits by an incredible amount (cant remember the exact). Toms taste better if they have been out of the fridge for a couple of hours and they will be much more juicy.

I wouldn't have anything but Warbies cashy, and I always keep mine in the freezer, I only take out the number of slices I want at any one time, put them separately on the work top and its defrosted in less than 5 minutes;)

Re: Mouldy Bread

bread probably goes mouldy quicker because of the warmer weather, its the same with friut too, iv noticed me oranges and apples going off a lot quicker and me spuds rooting:rolleyes:

As for warbutons bread, it probably keeps longer because of all the preservatives in it!
and its like dough...yuk!!!

I now buy kingsmill, and its not a bad loaf either, i always buy in bulk and freeze it!:D

Someone was giving away a bread machine on Freecycle today.
Three minutes to fill it and switch on -job done
It works out cheaper and the bread is real good stuff

And we all know that the best flour comes from Canadian No 1 grade Spring Wheat from the great (and flat) Province of Saskatchewan:D ... and there should be no shortage this year .... Saskatchewan could have a bumper crop:alright:

I also have a bread machine, never use it stuck in a cupboard catching dust although the bread was amazing but have to agree it does make you eat it all at once

thats one reason I never buy bread products with blueberries in , difficult to tell if its mould or just the fruit .
Also I can never figure out why the hole in the center of a week old bagel is bigger than the hole in the center of a fresh one , you would think if the bagel dries up and shrinks the hole would get smaller

Maybe it is just the bagel that shrinks and the hole stays the same size:confused: This question should be addressed to some of the great minds in physics;) And are we to assume that people in Accy know what a bagel is:D I know that this might offend people in the Big Apple, but the best bagels are those from Montreal, esp. in the Trans Island area where there is a large Jewish population .... (can never figure out why the breakfast bagel from Rotten Ronny's comes with bacon or ham:confused: .... sounds like a contradiction in foods to me.)

that is 'barbaric' only thing should be spread on a bagel is either lox or a schmear of cream cheese, , Bagels and Bacon is as crude and cringe worthy as curry and chips /chow mien and chips/ lasagne and chips/ paella and chips or any other combination ordered by British tourists in dining establishments around the world

Like Margaret, I make my own bread too. It's easy enough to stick the ingredients into the machine and turn it on. I find shop bought bread very salty nowadays and the consistency is very doughy. Even more expensive brands fall short of homemade bread and added to that, homemade is much cheaper than shop bought.

I also make rolls of different sorts and although they involve a little more work, they are great to stick in the freezer and use when needed.

Re: Mouldy Bread

My bread machine is a Morphy Richards stainless steel model.
As bread machine owners know, the types of bread which can be produced are limited by the need for the precice measurement of ingredients, and we tend to be limited to produce the breads which are listed in the recipe book which comes with the machine.

By experiment I have devised a bread machine recipe for Brioche and will pass it on to any of you who have the same machine.

Re: Mouldy Bread

has anyone else noticed that the bread does stale first at the hole at the bottom where the mixer doobly is in the bread maker? or is it just my bread?

MargaretR 13-08-2008 18:32

Re: Mouldy Bread

My machine has a mixer paddle that moves into a flat position after the kneading cycles - so that the hole is lessened and only affects the crust slice.

I'd think that your recipe would work in most machines, as they are all quite similar. I have a Panasonic SD253 that I've had for about 5 years now. It's been brilliant and when it finally goes to the big oven in the sky, I'll definitely be buying another. Hope it keeps working for a long time now. :)

I like a soft crust (easier on the false teeth) so I always drape a damp cloth over a newly baked loaf

In Spain the bread is absolute crap....A barra lasts for about 3 hours...after that...you need a drill to get into it.
