empty buildings in Accy & HBC

My friends & I have been looking at empty buildings in Accy to open as a music venue for all ages to use, including the under 18s & to possibly work with youth services to let young bands use the facilities.
There are numerous ideal (empty) buildings that already have all the facilities we need, ie, bar, stage, toilets, function rooms & cellar etc.
We have recently noticed that the miners club on Blackburn road is
being redeveloped after being empty for so long.
One or two other empty buildings in Accrington look in a similar
condition from the outside but we have been unable to find out who owns
these properties or what is happening to them. Examples of which are,
the Voodoo Lounge, a closed pub on the corner of Hood St & Meadow St & the closed pub on the corner of Blackburn Rd & Scaitcliffe St Anybody know anything about these?
Just been reading the thread about the old CON club & The Old Band Club is up for rent with Taylor Weaver but the owners have showed no interest in helping us get that building up & running.
WHO WOULD NO OF ANY OTHER SUITABLE VENUES ?
We cannot see the point of these buildings being left empty when
business people such as ourselves are looking for such premises.
We have been sending messages to HBC for 9 months asking for help & have had very little help re this issue... If they do have a regeneration department, we havn't seen it yet!

I wonder why people don't let it be known what their reasons are for joining Accy Web, is for social use or to promote business interests:(

What is strange about it? trying to make use of empty buildings before they get into such a state of disrepair as to become useless & not worth anyone spending money on doing them up!!??

Agh but ours is not really a business in the true sense, more of a cooperative or social club, we are music fans who want to promote all bands of all ages in a friendly envronment & venue. We have not got a big wad of money to throw at a venue, but we do have equipment, time & enthusiasm.

Any building that is empty and NOT available to let, will be so because it is not safe to use.

I can't see the owner of any such building taking the risk that people using it will be safe in it, because he would be laying himself open to a damages claim.

Something you may in fact need, if you are to ensure an empty building passes building regulations, in order that you can secure a licence, as well as money for public liability insurance, etc.

You can't just move into empty deserted buildings and start using them, even if you do manage to contact the owners. They can be fraught with all manner of dangers. Why are they empty in the first place? Is there damage which could pose a danger to anyone using the building? Have you taken legal advice regarding your liability if anyone is hurt in the building? What about simple things like basic buildings insurance? Supposing a slate falls off and hits a passer by? Would it be your problem or the owners?

That was my local in the mid to late 70s, I actually did the work on the pub in 74 when it was refurbished for the first time, a mate of mine took it over running it when it reopened, he was called Denis Smalley, sadly he died a few years ago, his wife was the stewardess at the Brooks Club for a while too
