Re: Accrington Night Out
Its a shame for our town. We used to go out every weekend, we'd start off in the broadway and then across to the Hope and Anchor and carry on from there. Now we tend to just go to the Railway, Nags and Calder as, like you say they are the only busy pubs. We tend to do these on a Sunday afternoon as I tend to go to Burnley for a night out now as its always heaving.

Re: Accrington Night Out
It never crossed my mind that the pub scene would be in trouble anywhere in Lancashire .... on a weekend back in the day I would meet up with my buddies at a pub, to discuss which pub(s) we were going to visit. I thought that I do a little research, volunteer in the interests of cross-cultural sociology and take a walk down town from my home, down to the lake front, and pop into some local establishements for a quick one ... turns out I had to spread it over two nights (and I'm still recovering from last night) 'cause there were just too many places. First stop, Rhea's Bar .... lots of locals in the old sense, decent pool tables, and Rhea is a doll. The Brass .... kiddy bar, helps if you are under 20 .... My Bar, crowded, but sucks, The Royal, biker bar, smoke cigarettes and dope in the tap room, nice crowd if you go for the leather jacket, beard and tattoo crew .... no one ever gets out of hand in here; don't want anything that will bring down the heat. The Iron Duke, great pub, fantastic pub grub, always a crowd, live music on weekends, no jerks. The Toucan, Irish pub, lots of over-the-pond brew on tap .... great crowd, live music on the weekends and on Monday. The Merchant ... super, lots of guys from CFB/BFC Kingston go in here .... Prince George (by this time I'm wobbly), Old Speckled Hen, Tir n'an Og, Pilot House, RCHA Club, Queen's Inn, memory going at this point ....
Seems like the pubs here are doing ok .... but this is a tourist town, and come fall we have a large influx of students (Queen's, St Lawrence Coll, and RMC/CMR) .... but still, even without non-smoking bars we still have a good, and varied scene.:alright: In the intersts of research, I will tackle the sports bars later this week, and a couple of the clubs: XXX, Fanatics, Rec Room, Brandees, The Grizzly, that should be enough. |
