Nope the process of toughening is to re-heat ordinary glass so that a thin film of it melts all over, this causes surface tension when it cools again, just the slightest chip causes the whole thing disintegrate into tiny cubes.

if its clear glass mick, I will be able to cut it, any way up, if it breaks, have to start again!

Toughened can be clear, patterned or opaque just looking at it you can't tell that's why these days they should be marked with a kite mark or something similar.

I hope it isn't toughened, then the problem will be solved, but wear safety equipment and do it in an area that can be easily swept just in case.
