Weather 1960-68

A colleague of mine set me a task.

When she went to primary school in Accrington from 1960-68 ish she said there was a really odd day that ocurred. Apparantely it went pitch black for a time but it was due to a storm not a total eclipse. She remembers some news in the local press about it stating that some RC schools told the children to kneel and pray as it could be the end of the world!

My friend is 53 and would like any info if you know anything please. I have googled it and searched on the net but have drawn a blank so far.

C'mon Accy Webbers Someone delve and put this woman out of her misery. PLEASE!

1963 severe snow storm 3 to 5 foot drifts in places, school cancelled ran out of the house to play with the rest of the kids slamming the front door, this dislodged a whole roofs worth of snow onto the top of me, yes everything went black, no it wasn't an eclipse, but strangely rather than nuns praying for salvation I just got surrounded by friends laughing.

There was a day which I think was in '66 or '67 when the sky went dark.
It was due to the air being heavily laden with sand from the sahara carried by high altitude air currents.
When the darkness passed, there was a fine layer of sand on everything

I was working at DSS Charlotte St Burnley on the top floor
It was very eerie looking down on the town in darkness in the middle of the day

I wasn't going to mention it.

The skies turning pitch black, the rivers and brooks running blood red.

Happy day.

Remember a day in the 60s, was at secondary, and it went dark outside, would have been between 65 - 69 don't remember what it was attributed to. just presumed it was an eclipse.

Remember a Sahara type thing, sand on cars and such, while I was in Blackburn, but that would have been late 70s early eighties.
