would there be interest ?

in a Mountain bike race using the coppice? proceeds to a local charity?

the coppice has some good tracks up there and could make a really good biking circuit up there.

do you think anyone from the council would like to champion it ?

advantages are.

1. get people off there backsides and see we have good cycling around hyndburn

2. promote the town

3. promote and slightly healthier lifestyle than a pint in railway and a chippy tea

4. local charitys could benefit ?

what you guys think ?

Yes, this is a great idea! Too many people live in pubs. Getting the community together for exercise and raising money for good causes is a really good thing! With the summer holidays approaching I'm sure enough people will get together and make a good day of it!

Speak to Sports Development at Leisure in Hyndburn - I think she's called Jane Grantham. Then speak to Parks department because they manage the land - I'd suggest you start with Shirley Parkinson.

Or you could speak to Cllr Clare Pritchard - she's the Chair of Green Spaces Forum and they encourage use of the green spaces in Hyndburn.

You should be warned that there'll be a lot of refurbishment work up there this year as they renovate the monument and do the paths.

to be fair it might be short notice to get it done this year but next year should be easy, there is a good course just asking to be made up there and it would be good for hyndburn council...i mean just look at the plaudits rossendale council is getting for lee quarry

How about doing a Sports Day up at Oak Hill Park? Would you need permission? A Family Sports Day sort of thing...

Re: would there be interest ?

and then theirs all the health and safety issues Phil, and then all the insurance that they would need

then theres the risk assesments

its endless now mate, you cant do anything without having to ask for someones permission

Re: would there be interest ?

as long as the race starts at the top and finishes at the bottom it sounds ok

must work on my WHEEEEeeeee's :D

Re: would there be interest ?

yep i know all this which is why it cant be rushed and to be honest im not suggesting using anything that isnt already there so there should alredy be risk assesments associated with the use of land anyways.

just do it as a "flash mob" thing, sod the health /safety and insurance rubbish , go out and have some fun while your young .
( could be fun , getting the fat assed PC Plods out of their cars for a bit of exercise) ... you could even call it "anarchy for health" :D :D
