Taking a child to the barbers.....

Anyone got any suggestions??

One of the twins HATES going to the barbers, kicks off and screams the minute the barbers touches his hair. He is not hurting him or anything but he just hates it. Ive tried allsorts, sitting him on his own, on my knee, distracting him, trying to bribe him, even sending him with his dad but he still screams the place down and can never get a good finish because he wont let the barber do much to it. The other doesnt bother at all but 1 just hates it, ive even taken him in with other people (including myself) while they have had their hair cut but it makes no difference.

If anyone has any suggestions, tips etc, will try pretty much anything as his hair is getting a bit long again and needs cutting

:o

I've noticed that quite a lot of the boys at Laura's school have fairly long hair. It seems to be becoming popular again. Why not just forget about haircuts for a while? OK, he may not look the way you want him to but as long as his hair's clean and brushed perhaps you could put up with it.

Knowing how perverse kids can be, he'll probably be demanding a haircut after a few months if he thinks you don't want him to have one. :)

Get them to give him the "Mr Tickle" brush as my youngest called it... while they are doing his hair.
With a lolly on the shelf in front of him for when he has finished :)

Re: Taking a child to the barbers.....

I may just have to go for the long hair look, but dont like it :( I think it looks scruffy. He has thick hair and it grows really quickly, where as the other has finer hair that doesnt grow as quick. Its sods law that the one with quick growing hair doesnt like having his hair cut

There are razor combs.
He will think you are just combing it.

what about trying the razor comb when he is in the bath ? Not sure if it works the same as dry hair though.

My daughter was the same when she was little, problem with thick hair is that it tends to get knotty and hurts. She eventually grew out of it by applying loads of conditioner and brushing it before she got out of the bath. Nowadays she pesters to go the hairdressers :D

I would suggest buying him a skirt, but that would just get me thumped, and you live too close. :D S, how about changing his name to Samson and hoping he meets Delilha fairly soon.

Unlikely, as the trend certainly seems to be towards longer hair. I've noticed it's not just the primary school boys, the High School has its share of shaggy manes too. Just keep your fingers crossed against the return of the mullet. :D

Seems fear of hair cuts has a name 'Tonsurephobia' ... so maybe he needs some therapy ?:D

Ah bless ... he has got himself into a corner, and no persuasion is going to help ... will just have to go along with his stubborness and let it grow for a while. Maybe once you stop giving him the attention, then he may ask of his own accord.

Best of luck Emzy .. my son would never sit on the plank at the barbers for a few years, only on my knee.

I had exactly the same prob with my eldest and it only improved with age. I had to sit him down on my knee and more or less bear hug him to get his hair done and then it could only be done with the clippers!!!!

He may calm down after a couple of visits when he sees his brother getting his hair cut and he may feel he's missing out and request it gets cut... I know yours do have a very healthy competition between themselves

It is only fair that you give him a choice, either the barber cuts it or you do.
You will only cut it once if he gets enough stick from his 'friends'.

Another choice.....haircut or heated rollers

Take him to Adams barbers at the bottom of Rhyddings Street on Union Road in Ossy and tell him to tie him to the chair :D:D:D

You are not the only AccyWebber whose son does not like his hair cutting. I was in Adams when one of our friends was having a hard time getting her sons hair cut. I wont say who but I think Adam is an expert with reluctant customers :)

He is a mate of mine but that is not the only reason I am suggesting you take him.

Take him to another barber who can deal with children.
At 3 years old, he cannot be allowed to rule the roost. By the age of 10, your life will be hell.

He has been to quite a few different barbers and hairdressers, all have had the same problems. And beleive me, he doesnt rule the roost but just does not like having his hair cut

I found magic putty was the quickest way for a forced haircut after falling asleep on some.
