Hair stuff

Had my hair cut yet again the other week, last week i had blonde streaks put in, since then everytime i straighten my hair (which isn't everyday) it looks really dry, what products do you lot use to protect your hair from straighteners?

my hair looks really really nice with the blonde in it...apart from it being dry:D

oh...and is it likely to go green when i do the swim on Friday?

Hi Flashy. Know just what you mean having myself to use straighteners all the time. There are plenty of products on the market. I am using a VO5 'heat protect' spray product at the moment, which (I think) I got from Bodycare. The one before that was a Boots own brand.

You have to look through the shelves for them as there only appears to be one of these products from each manufacturer.

The problem may come if you are using your straighteners again before the next wash and not re-applying; may build up a little particularly if you use hair spray too .. not sure as I wash my hair practically every day. Gotta' laugh ... use shampoo, then conditioner, then the hair protect, then the hair spray !! How I long for straight hair ... :D Seems to work anyway .. my hair is in decent condition still.

Best of luck with the swim.

As Kate says you need to use a "heat protection" spray there are quite a few out there. What gets me is the info on some which says you can use on dry hair. If your use your straightening irons after spraying on dry hair you will cause even more damage, so I spray mine on before blow drying.
Should hope it doesn't go green when you do the swim, good luck:)

the current Herbal Essences products are very good.......I use the Shampoo and conditioner in the pink bottle and they are excellent.......my hair seems to stay straighter for longer, meaning I don't have to use the starighteners so often, but I would echo what Kate says......if using heat on your hair is essential to you, then you must use a heat protector spray.....I use Tresemme.....it isn't the cheapest product, but i find it works best for me.

The other thing you could try is to give yourself a hot oil treatment......and you can use olive oil for this...it doesn't have to be the extra virgin :D........I warm a couple of tablespoons of oil and put it through my hair....wrap my head in cling film and then put a towel over, leave it for at least half an hour (longer if you can) and then wash the oil out......it may take two applications of shampoo to do it....but then you should be left with lovely silky locks.

Kate, i cant use hairspray on it, i wash, condition, dry, straighten then as soon as i put hairspray on it, it goes all curly again, i can't win lol

Bernie, so i should use a spray/serum when my hair is wet, before i dry and straighten it?

Margaret, i'm going to try the olive oil, it'll save me a fortune, i have used VO5 hot oil before and its not cheap....just think how long a bottle of olive oil will last me ;)

Thanx you 3 xxx

Yep Flashy never use it on dry hair my hairdresser told me you are causing more damage using straighteners on wet/damp hair. Makes sense when you think about it really but a lot of products say it is safe:confused: I have got some John Frieda, Frizz Ease, Strengthening Creme Masque that I use once or twice a week. Wasn't cheap but seems to do the job.

Oh Jen, you havent seen my hair when its not straight, we are talking Shirley Temple here...and i hate it, looks like i've had a triple perm, there was nothing at all i could do about it when i was growing up, how glad was i when they invented straighteners, i don't mind my hair being curly every so often when its long but now i can have it straight and styled....its damn hard to have any style at all in curly hair (i know, i tried for years), the length i have it at, at the moment is a short short bob (pob) if i let it go curly it ends up a heck of a lot shorter than it is and looks daft, so i keep it straight

thats why ;)
