I lived in rishton 1962/1996 34 years and nobody as mentioned the restaurant that opened in the late sixties early seventies were the indian restaurant now is the chef was top notch he was helped by his wife and as a matter of fact they moved into a rented house that I and my family had just left when we moved to a house further up the street and bought two night storage heaters that I had fitted in the bedrooms He was middle aged as was his wife and he was said to have trained in the west end london and to me he looked ex army oficer very well spoken as was his wife they moved on 12months later and the place was taken over by a young couple who kept going as a restaurant he was the chef and always in whites and wore a chefs hat the lady a blonde may still live in rishton alas the standard of the food dropped and the rest is now history

Every second pub in the Ribble Valley sold chicken in the basket in the 60s, with disposable gloves, or more posh with finger bowls. Three Fishes, Aspinall Arms, Wellsprings, Swan With Two Necks, Higher Buck, Sun Inn, Most of the pubs in Clitheroe,

A plate a tripe & black pudding fer this lot,

I've gone native, John. I don't venture beyond the village boundaries these days for fear of bumping into an 'Arroder or a Dingle or some other such foreign devil.

Besides which, I'm far too busy concentrating on local matters.....aren't I, Wynonie?

;)
