GHD hair straighteners - anywhere sell them in Accy?

I'm looking to buy some GHDs but I'm too impatient to order them off the website. Does anyone know where I can buy them in Accrington, preferably for no more than £100?

The hairdressers next to Greggs sell them, or maybe the hair supplies shop next to it, can't remember which

Yes I thought Sally's might but their website doesn't appear to be working at the moment to check the price. Really frustrating!

I think they sell them at Mirage on Whalley road near the Oak Leigh. I'll ask my daughter in law, she works there :)

I'd curb your impatience if you can Blazey, and order them from Amazon, only have to wait a few days, and they will be a good bit cheaper than you will have to pay around here i think.

I got mine about a year ago now from an official website and paid....wait for it £40.......they came from China and took 10 days. And...yes they are genuine, they have the Hologram and the serial number that you can look up on the Jamilia website.
Blazey you will pay over 100 quid for them in accy.(I think they will be at least 120 quid.)

I am not being funny but after my visit to China I'm not buying anything from there. The whole industry is built around conning people into thinking that seeing is believing.

I'm not convinced that it would be difficult to find real serial numbers. In fact simple hacking programmes could hack into the website and all you'd have to do is sit with a pen and paper and take down the numbers as genuine customers sit and put them in.

I'd rather pay from a registered supplier and be sure that I have my warranty, even if that does mean paying double what they're selling them for in China. Something about things being too good to be true probably shouldn't be believed comes to mind!

Margaret Pilkington 02-08-2010 11:48

Re: GHD hair straighteners - anywhere sell them in Accy?

Blazey, these Ghds are all produced in China.......and the website is real......the serial numbers are real.......and I have a warranty, but if you want to pay inflated prices, go ahead....the registered supplier buys from the place I got them from and then they whack a whole lot of money on top because they know that once you have had GHD's then you wouldn't settle for anything else.

I also think that if something looks too good to be true then it usually is, but in this case I was wrong.

It is definitely worth checking out some of the websites....you will buy them for £99, but then there will be P&P to add on.

It's ok, I got some from an official supplier and happily paid full price! I like bargain hunting but not really with expensive electrical goods, so I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Re: GHD hair straighteners - anywhere sell them in Accy?

Just a question and looking for a serious answer.

Why are these straighteners any better when you can buy this item for a lot less ?

A hairdresser (who sold them in Accrington) once told me that they are a waste of money in the hands of an amateur.. i.e. us.

As I have nightmare curly hair and, at present, using hair straighteners which cost me about £25 about 3 years ago, would these do it any better ?

Please convince me and I will rush out tomorrow to buy some.

Margaret Pilkington 05-08-2010 16:55

Re: GHD hair straighteners - anywhere sell them in Accy?

I had some cheaper ones......but after trying my daughters GHD's was converted.......they were far superior, smoother on my hair and I do get good results with them, but no way would I consider myself an expert.......I hasten to add that I do not use them every day, as it worries me to use a lot of heat on elderly hair....GHD's make my hair sleek and shiny and tame the grey ones(which behave like pubes....and go in all directions).

Margaret Pilkington 05-08-2010 16:57

Re: GHD hair straighteners - anywhere sell them in Accy?

Sometimes I wonder if Hairdressers tell folk that they are useless in the hands of amateurs because they don't really want you to be doing your own hair(cynical me)...it takes away their livelihood. I bet the same hairdresser would sell you a set without a second thought.

I bought the red ghd`s today from THEFUNKYGROUP.CO.UK they where £110 inclunding vat and delivery(next day tracked online). They are an official supplier so i know they arent fake. There a lot of fakes out there, I bought a pair last year off ebay and they turned out to be very good fakes.:)

Re: GHD hair straighteners - anywhere sell them in Accy?

Thanks Margaret for that. The ceramic has worn off a little now on the ones I have so does 'scrape' a little, so figure time to bring out my back up pair. .. M & S ones.

I wash my hair and try to straighten certain parts of it every day and it is still in good condition and believe me it really is attacked. Blow dried, hot hair styler, hair straighteners, back brushed, then heavily sprayed. Must have spent 20% of my life sorting this mop out. Why, oh why was I not born with Timotei hair ... :(

Don't think the hairdresser who said this was trying to sell me any at all .. had known him for years and just general conversation... depends on their profit margin anyway. May have more on a cheaper pair. Ok .. imagine curly hair as having a whole mop like pubes. That is what I have to deal with every day. :D:D

Re: GHD hair straighteners - anywhere sell them in Accy?

Oh Kate, my sympathy to you, my hair is mainly straight,(one side does have an annoying 'flick' though) but the grey ones stick out like sore fingers.......I haven't met anyone who has tried GHD's and then gone back to the cheaper ones, and they must be easy to use if I can get to grips with them.
I can highly recommend them

Re: GHD hair straighteners - anywhere sell them in Accy?

Ok .. will ask my current hairdresser to let me have a go with hers and see how they behave... cheers.. :)

Re: GHD hair straighteners - anywhere sell them in Accy?

In my opinion GHD's are too expensive for the build quality. In fact I think they are cheap rubbish sold for lots of money. I have repaired several pairs and am not impressed by them. For the money I would have expected them to be a lot better.

They dont have solid ceramic plates for a start. They are aluminium with brown stuff on them. the plastic that holds the plates in place is poor and goes brittle in time.

The new pink ones are worse. The cases appear quite fragile. I know someones who fell from the dressing tables onto the carpet floor and the cracked very badly. Not what you expect for well over £100

Re: GHD hair straighteners - anywhere sell them in Accy?

Well I paid fractionally more for my GHD's than the cheap pair, so i reckon that I got a bargain......and I am quite happy with mine......far superior to the cheaper ones.

I was expecting them to be better quality in terms of feel as well, but in terms of my hair they are definitely better than cheap hair straighteners so I'm not entirely sure what it is that makes them so great. I've had sturdier feeling straighteners that just don't get the same result. It's strange. I'm going to be very careful with mine :)

Margaret Pilkington 07-08-2010 14:49

Re: GHD hair straighteners - anywhere sell them in Accy?

What makes them great is the results you achieve.....it is no good a product feeling good but performing badly. So you have actually answered the question yourself, by telling us that you have achieved superior results.

Yes but I meant I'm not entirely sure HOW they do that when in terms of the material they're made out of they are cheaper.

Re: GHD hair straighteners - anywhere sell them in Accy?

they are not as hot as some others either, most I have tested are around the 185 to 195 degrees c mark. Rhonda's are set at just over 200 degrees C as she wanted them to be hotter. The pink new style ones I tested where on the cooler side

Re: GHD hair straighteners - anywhere sell them in Accy?

GHD's are very good and are the most commonly known, but Kodo hair straighteners are just as good for a fraction of the price.

I've had my Kodo's for about 5 yrs, and used them a lot when I had long hair. As I have short hair now, I tend to use them for Siobhan's hair, they heat up very quickly and give a good result.

I suppose it depends on how much you want to spend on a pair.

Re: GHD hair straighteners - anywhere sell them in Accy?

My GHDs take literally a few seconds to heat up, it's very impressive! They are even cooler than the temps you said though Neil at 175-185 degrees! They do the job perfectly though and I thought it might just be because I have fine hair but I had a go with them on my mum and sister's hair which is much thicker and they were just as good. My mum found they were also better than other straighteners I've had for curling and flicking hair as well.

I'm a very satisfied customer!
