You can post what you like in the over 18's section. It was decided a long time ago that we would not have swearing on the main forum. Most people can express themselves without vulgar language so most of us don't see a problem with the rule.

You only have to think back to earlier in the year, and how many would be politicans joined the forum, to understand how important this forum is seen by all the political parties.

I won't list, because it would take too long, the number of times this forum has played a vital role in helping to shape political policies, both openly, and behind the scenes.

Long may it continue.

Accy Web isn't dead, or in danger of falling off this virtual mortal coil.

Though from time to time, she does doze off, when there's nothing that interesting on the virtual telly.

There probably would have been 115 posts just in different threads without this attempt of yours to 'provoke'. (That's what happens when a site is busy and 'Alive').

At least you gave the really bitter members a chance to whinge against the rest, I bet it made you feel good to know you aren't alone.

Can i ask what was behind the thread entwisi? know ya said n incident up spring hill, but that don't seem right to me, as i said earlier ya been a member many years n seen how hot n cold things can go, n perhaps nobody was aware of it, or anyone was they may just be used/ immune to bothering, seems to me thats very much part of life these days.

entwisi 27-08-2010 19:23

Re: is accyweb dying?

is was genuinely that i was surprised that no thread existed. i did sort of also feel that the number of 'core' posters was dwindling with the likes of mez, harwood red, acccyman(chav1)nettie, lettie, sparks, willow, grannyclaret, doug, and many others that just dont seem to pop on much at all any more. i know that some of you can type the hind legs offf a donkey and that but it just did sort of feel that it wasnt a short term thing and just felt that it was more than a temp blip.

Neither was it a dig at anyone or accyweb itself.

cashman 27-08-2010 19:41

Fair enough, some of those ya mention have genuine reasons fer absence, leaving etc, which ya probably not aware of.

Accy Web's like a soap opera.

Sometimes there's a good story line, with a gripped audience. At other times there isn't.

Actors come and go, but the show still goes on.

No one person is irreplaceable.

People come.

People go.

A little like like itself.

I take things as they come good or bad. Everyone has an opinion that even if I disagree with I will respect. Takes a lot to rile me into shotgun posts as it is first and foremost a family site.

As for me making trouble or causing it then its as rare as a pinkish elephant. ;) Stirring up aggro can demean the site so if I do I deserve what i get.

Perhaps some of the reasons are

on some relatively serious issues we get the regulars who think its amusing to go completely off subject and have some injokes with their cronies that the majority of members can't understand (if you want to amuse yourselves why not go on facebook etc)

why do some members feel they have to contribute to every thread with ramblings that add nothing to the thread

this thred starts by asking about accyweb and it develops into a discussion about the merits of plastic glasses rather than the merits of the website

I appreciate that the above comments may not be well received by the incrowd that hog everything on the site. ( I would guess there are no more than 30 people who post more than 90% of the posts)

I think you miss the point with your "injokes with their cronies" remark, which is empty rhetoric anyway, tossed in as critical, rather than as a neutral observation. Perhaps some of us, like myself, use the off-topic banter in order to put a face, a personality, onto a comment or argument. Take out the human interaction, and any thread would be drier than a soda cracker fart.

Without the slight off topic input and a bit of ribbing then the fun is taken out of it. A conversation between a group of people in a pub or the street does not follow strict guide lines so the same should apply here. Take away the quirks and the banter then it loses its appeal and would become boring. Some of use get a giggle out of what is said when it meanders from the main stream and that is what makes it what it is on here. Without it it would die slowly as the fun would disappear along with people pretty fast. If it goes too far the mods set us back on course as is there job.

Especially when the first of those three posts uses asterisks, to get round the swearing ban. Something that is forbidden, on this family site.

Me thinks someone should perhaps read the forum rules, before commenting on Accy Web's health.

Better red (for Stanley, our sitting M.P.'s party colours, and the county rose) than dead...or royal blue.

I still have a nosey around now and then but since I now spend 7+ hours a day in front of 2 pc screens at work it's not as appealing as it used to be! Gotta give the eyeballs a break at some point!:)

yes. i think there's been a bit too much rubbin people up the wrong way - too many arguements and as such people have left it

a few years ago there was a great atmosphere on accyweb - lots of friendly people - some are still here but for me i almost cringe at threads and people's attitudes on here.

That's what the ex-wife said about me 21 years ago, in "I'm not staying around well they screw the coffin lid down" I may not be throwing snowballs at the moon anymore, but I'm still alive and kicking and hope to be that way for a few more years yet;)

No grave dancing for you then eh?

Oops sorry, no pulling a wheelie in your invalid carriage over some well laid sod then eh?

Life is full of disappointments.

In fact Less I'm actually quite friendly with both her and her husband, water under the bridge and all that, in fact if she hadn't sodded of when she did, I probably would have been dead now, instead I met the best person ever to come into my life 21 years ago, so in a way she did me a big favour, but I still have the dancing shoes in the wardrobe;)

Maybe it's because people are in their own little Internet World and they don't want to discuss such matters. May be they didn't know about it? And it didn't effect them directly? Also things like that are more regular now adays so people take it for granted.

You've used your 50/50, and ask the audience.

Your only option left is to phone a friend.
