Mission impossible ?

Whilst walking the dog this afternoon , I was talking to a man about the Baxenden area of Manchester Rd.

He mentioned that when travellling on the Manchester bus he had heard passengers refer to one stop as "mission" . I said that I had never heard of it .

When I got home I checked Shurmer's official Guide of Hyndburn and found :
MISSION , Accrington - local place name for an area on Manchester Rd. (East side) between junctions with Halliwell St. and Rock St.

Does anyone know the reason for , what at least to me , is an odd name or is it Mission Impossible ?

I may be wrong but I believe where the "Mission" bus stop is, there used to be some sort of building (church/sunday school?) now there are two house there. I'm sure someone on here knows more, I'm just recalling what my Grandma used to tell me when I was younger and living in Bash.

Thanks . That must have been many moons ago .

If correct it's odd how names stick . Like paying the driver to go to the Grammar School on Blackburn Road .
