Historical search
Hi all,
In my search on the history of various properties in Accrington I wonder if anyone can tell me if there is a registry for properties that would reveal their past owners? I am also curious as to why places like Arden Hall and Plantation House were demolished. I know that the CWS [The old dairy company] were going to site a new dairy on the land alongside the drive to Plantation House from Owl Hall but that wouldn't explain why it was necessary to demolish the house. And it does seem strange to me that Arden Hall's coach house should survive but the hall destroyed. I would be most grateful if anyone with any information or photos would get in touch. Regards Mike D :gooddog: |
Re: Historical search
There is no suich registry that I am aware of. It is necessary to go through directories and census returns.
It5 was probably safer for the house to be demolished rather than have it occupied by squatters. Refurbishment would have been exceedingly expensive once the houses jhad deteriorated to the extent they had. |
Re: Historical search
I have always understood that Arden Hall and its grounds having been left to the Borough of Accrington by Alderman John Bury, the house was let go and then demolished. I don't think the Coach House was included in the legacy.
