Royal Blackburn Hospital site info needed
Right, as a handful of you already know, i have been offered a job (conditionally) as a healthcare worker at The Royal Blackburn, went for interview on August 2nd and was offered the job by 5pm that day.
As i said this is only conditional....tomorrow i have to go to the hospital for an I.D check and to see the occupational health team. I went to the learning centre at the Park view offices for my interview which is through the old entrance, now here's my dilemma, i have to go to Employment support at The Park view offices in the morning, but i'm damned if i can find any info on this darn place...is it in the learning centre or somewhere else? on a map, the Park view offices are seperate to the Learning centre but there is nothing about employment support HELPPPPP!!!! please  |
Re: Royal Blackburn Hospital site info needed
Shaz just go to the Park View Offices and ask someone there to give you directions...turn up early so that it gives you time to seek directions....and find your way around.
Good luck with this new job...it will be challenging, but I'm sure you will enjoy it. |
Re: Royal Blackburn Hospital site info needed
Well done Flashy, you must have beaten my daughter to that job, she went for an interview there on same day.
|
Re: Royal Blackburn Hospital site info needed
Thankyou Marg, that's what my dad has just said
G, my interview was at 2pm that day, they had been interviewing since 8.30 that morning, there where quite a few interviewed according to one of the ladies who interviewed me, god knows why they picked me though, i will keep my ears open for any other hca jobs that come up, maybe your daughter might get lucky in another one I am beyond excited, i just hope i pass everything tomorrow |
Re: Royal Blackburn Hospital site info needed
She`s applied for quite a few, had two interviews but so far unsuccessful. Her interview was about 1 o clock for 45 mins so you may have seen her on her way out. I wouldn`t worry about tomorrow, just a formality, CRB checks etc.
|
Re: Royal Blackburn Hospital site info needed
Well done Shaz, yeh will be fine, go fer it girl.;)
|
Re: Royal Blackburn Hospital site info needed
Here is a site map, the Park View Offices are near the Learning Centre where you had your interview.

thanx Cashy, i just want to get my start date through now, i've wanted to be a healthcare worker since i was 16, thats what i did my NVQ for in the first place (many many moons ago), i know its just a general dogsbodys job but i don't care, i just want to help and as you lot already know, i just love a challenge ;) |
Re: Royal Blackburn Hospital site info needed
Shaz, there's only one thing you need to remember...whichever patient you are caring for, make them feel the most important person in your life at that moment.....do what you would do for someone you love...and do it with love.
|
Re: Royal Blackburn Hospital site info needed
You`ll do other stuff as well as being a "dogsbody", you`ll learn to take blood, catheterize etc. maybe not straight away, but you will eventually.

Re: Royal Blackburn Hospital site info needed
My Mrs is a HCA and she takes blood, may depend which dept. you are in I suppose.
|
Re: Royal Blackburn Hospital site info needed
thankyou G, when i was swatting up on the job before the interview i looked at the job spec for general hca's, it didnt mention taking blood but you are more than likely right
|
Re: Royal Blackburn Hospital site info needed
It seems HCA`s are doing more and more the tasks traditionally done by nurses.
Healthcare assistants carry out nursing tasks | News | Nursing Times A quote from the above link - He said: “This tends to confirm our research that HCAs are not only carrying out direct care, such as making beds and feeding patients, but that they have started to move into what could be called low level technical tasks such as observations and taking blood samples.” |
Re: Royal Blackburn Hospital site info needed

All went well thankyou Marg, the buggers managed to stick a needle in me, only got 3 or 4 more to have now, 2nd mmr and a course of hep B injections, oh the joys of wanting to work in a hospital hey ;)
Just have to wait for my enhanced crb to come back now then I will hopefully get a start date |
Re: Royal Blackburn Hospital site info needed
Well done Shazxxx
|
Re: Royal Blackburn Hospital site info needed
Great stuff Shaz....glad you are going to be doing something which will give yo so much satisfaction...yes, it will be hard graft...but you will know you are making a difference in the lives of the people you look after.
|
Re: Royal Blackburn Hospital site info needed
Thanx Bernie xxx
Marg, you wouldn't believe how much getting this job means to me, its not 'just another job' its what I will be doing that means a lot, now Reece is nearly 17 he doesn't need me so much anymore, I have all this care left to give but no one to give it to, I just hope I can help someone and give them a bit of what I have |
Re: Royal Blackburn Hospital site info needed
Shaz, that is exactly what the patients need...someone with enthusiasm and who cares...don't let anyone knock that out of you.
Life isn't just the line of financial figures that need to add up....there is much more to job satisfaction than that. I wish you all the very best in your chosen career,.......and it will be what you make it..the opportunities are there for you if you show you are interested, then they will train you to do lots of things. |
Re: Royal Blackburn Hospital site info needed
Congratulations Flashy, it's nice to know that there are still people out there who are determined to get a job rather than rely on us poor old tax payers to keep them.
Well done and I hope the job turns out to be all you want. |
Re: Royal Blackburn Hospital site info needed
Gremlin, I have had more than my fair share of benefits over the years, the benefits system is what has kept me going for years, not everyone who is on benefits is a scrounger though, I was a single parent, it isn't as much fun as you think relying on the state, for the last 5 years I have been applying for job after job, it isn't as easy these days to just walk into a job, a firm has maybe 2 jobs going and 200 applicants for the same job, if your cv doesn't stand out immediately to them then they don't even bother reading it, they bin it, the amount of cv's I have sent out over the years is unreal, being on the dole I have to apply for 15 jobs a week, I have to do all this online and have hard proof that I have done it so there is no trying to bluff the system by pretending you have applied for jobs or making jobs up, I was very lucky in my teens, I could walk straight from one job into another, often stop working for one one day and have a fresh job the day after, you just can't do that now, so please think on when you think all who are on benefits are scroungers, most aren't
I wasn't getting at you Gremlin, just people who think that in general |
Re: Royal Blackburn Hospital site info needed
most of us know it`s not easy finding a job, but you are proof that persistence pays off. :)

Well Done Shaz......I'm really made up for you. When you contact the Matron, ask if you can go and visit the ward you will be working on...just to get a 'feel' of things......ask questions of he staff there(I know when I interviewed people, if they asked for a pre-employment visit to get the 'lie of the land' it always made me feel like they were interested...and not just in the pay packet..but the work too) If you only spend half an hour familiarising yourself with the layout of the ward, it will be time well spent. |
Re: Royal Blackburn Hospital site info needed
I was thinking the same thing earlier Marg, I need to get to know where it is anyway, was going to go up tomorrow and see how long it took me to get to the ward from the bus stop, I will ring matron in the morning and ask about going up
|

Re: Royal Blackburn Hospital site info needed
i rang for a start time as they didn't put one in the email, i also asked about my uniform, was told to ring someone else, then the someone else told me to ring the ward back, its a good job i asked because i can't start without one, nothing has been mentioned about my hospital I.D either, maybe they need reminding about everything up there, anyway, i start at 7.30 Monday morning :D and i'm off to attempt to track a uniform or 3 down, up at the hospital....good job i'm on top of it 'innit'
