Where were you?
This is one for the Old Farts ... and Fartesses, can't forget the ladies.;) Someone once said that all the world's a stage ... no, that's Elvis ... let's start again.:D Someone once said that most folks ... that's those who were alive at the time and out of diapers ... can remember what they were doing when they heard that JFK had been assasinated. I remember fairly clearly ... only "fairly" 'cause I was drinking at the time, go figure, eh ... I was in the Con Club playing snooker, very badly as usual, on the table nearest the bar of course. And that was 50 bloody years ago, how tempus fugits. Anyone else remember?

Re: Where were you?
Yep, I remember, I was at home primping and pampering, getting ready to go to Whalley Road Cong Youth Club, across the road from our house. Heady days... or maybe that was only my perfume, or scent as we probably called it in those days.

Re: Where were you?
I had recently married and my husband had written a play for the Whalley Road Methodist A.D.S. in which I took the lead and we were at Jim Bowen's house in Burnley Road (of Bullseye fame) He was directing the play - but I think he was called Jim Whittaker then.

Re: Where were you?
It was a Friday night, orders night at my dad`s grocers shop in Haslingden.Regular customers used to leave a list at the shop earlier in the day.Dad would pack the groceries into boxes and my job was to load them into dad`s Standard Vanguard car and then carry the boxes into the customers house. Two bob at Grandma`s made it worth it!
When we went into Mrs Warburton`s on Maple Avenue that`s when we heard the news.. |

Re: Where were you?
Nope, tried very hard, well, thought about it for a milli second can't remember.
More importantly I probably won't remember where I was when I died, 50 years later. |

Re: Where were you?
I was nine years old at the time and can remember being at my grandma's with my parents. I can remember them saying he was only young. I didn't really take it in who he was.

Re: Where were you?
It was his wife who taught us.
She was the games mistress - I hated sport of every description. I was particularly bad at netball. I told her I would rather do double maths than play sport. I got my wish. I was sent straightaway to see Milton Suthers - from then on when my class did sports, I did maths. I was still pretty useless even with extra lessons. |
