Problem with "Back Arrow"

Why doesn't my "Back Arrow" work within the various threads?
i.e. I'm looking through some of the threads, and want to go back a couple of pages, after clicking in on my "Back Arrow" button nothing happens! I then click on the "Home" button to get back to the home page and then start all over again!

Cheers

Philip

Hi there Cashman,
Thanks for the reply. I'm Aware of the numbers Routine, but what if you want to go back to say another forum that you were looking at just before you went into a page of a forum?
Please note that this did work some time ago, so what has changed?
Cheers
Philip

Re: Problem with "Back Arrow"

Does it work with other web pages or is it just this forum?
If you right click the arrow what do you see?
What browser are you using?

Re: Problem with "Back Arrow"

I don't think it is something to do with the site.
My back arrow works with all the pages I have tried.......so could it be a setting that you have altered(perhaps without realising it)........I can't think of any other reason.
does your back arrow work properly on all other sites that you visit?

The phrase 'great minds' comes to mind.....the browser question I was just about to edit my post to ask that one.

Re: Problem with "Back Arrow"

This has happened to me on a few sites i`ve been on recently (not happened on this one yet) - IE back button doesn't work / Multiple clicks to go back to - Microsoft Community
the link is for Internet Explorer but happens with me on Firefox, if you right click the back arrow it gives a list of pages you can go back to, hence the reason I asked what is seen when right clicking.

Re: Problem with "Back Arrow"

Just another thought, the link I posted earlier suggests it`s something to due with the adverts on the site, and as we all probably see different adverts as they are based on our cookies maybe that`s why not everyone is affected, so perhaps deleting cookies might sort it out for you.

Re: Problem with "Back Arrow"

Hi there everybody,

Thanks for all the help given.
Here is a follow-up to some of your suggestions I’ve found so far:
1) I’m using Internet Explorer as my browser
2) After clicking with my right hand mouse button, I do get a list of what I have seen before
3) When clicking on one of the themes, I can go back to that particular page, even within this web site.
4) My back arrow also works within the web site of the Accrington Observer!

Cheers

Philip

Re: Problem with "Back Arrow"

This happens when there's a "hidden" page between the page you're on and the one you want, such as an invisible site tracker.

For example if you go to google and type "accyweb test" your first hit in the list should be the test forum. Click on it to get to the accyweb page, then click "back" or press the backspace key. It doesn't work because google lies to you. If you hover over the link on the search results, it tells you that the link takes you to accringtonweb.com/forum/f91 but it doesn't. Instead you go to googleads.g.doubleclick.net which immediately forwards you to accringtonweb.

When you click "back", all you're doing is going back to that hidden page, and it immediately forwards you to accringtonweb, giving the illusion that "back" doesn't work.

Re: Problem with "Back Arrow"

Why not try and modernize your browsing instead?

Instead of going back & forth, hold Ctrl when clicking on the link for a thread and open it in a new tab, that way you do not need to go back, you can go through the list of new posts and open them in new tabs and read, closing the tab when you have finished.

This is why we have tabbed browsers. ;)

Alternatively, if you ate using a mouse with a wheel between the buttons, pressing the wheel as if it's a button usually achieves the same effect.

While you're at it stop using Internet Explorer and try Chrome or Firefox

Re: Problem with "Back Arrow"

Yes, I would echo that sentiment.
I was very reluctant to convert from IE to Firefox, but I would NEVER use IE again.
I have had fewer virus alerts and my systems all run far better since changing.
I can't comment on Chrome as I have never used it. I am perfectly happy with Firefox.

Woah!
Lets not push too mush onto the OP, it could scare them off lol

Ditto - the quicker you can get away from IE the better. As far as I know the majority of security problems using browsers have in the main been by IE users - it's full of holes, bloated and slower than Chrome or Firefox.

Out of the 2, I find Firefox better as it seems to be supported by more sites.

P.S. I stopped using the middle mouse as a button because when my mouse battery starts going flat it never works :)
