Thanks anyway, good suggestion! |
Re: Carpet Repair
Puppies never make a hole where it can be covered by a rug do they ?
Have you any remnants of the damaged carpet? In the past when I have had carpet fitted I have always asked for a bit of the off cut, just in case. If you haven't then I think you might just be snookered. I would look in the yellow pages for carpet fitters...OK, they might not be able to make the repair, but they might know someone who can. That is the best my feeble brain can come up with. |
Re: Carpet Repair
I have just done a checkatrade search and there is someone in Chorley that repairs and stretches carpets.
Ryan Kellett Mobile number 07846 841634. E mail [email protected] I really hope this helps. |
Re: Carpet Repair
Heck there must be someone closer.
Try the carpet shops, ask them. |
Re: Carpet Repair
There might be someone closer, but Chorley isn't that far away.
This looks like a family business, not one of the large multinational retailers...they won't be interested in doing a repair...they would sooner sell you a new carpet. There are not many small firms about. This is mainly because of the large chains. In a previous post I did suggest contacting local carpet fitters...but this business actually says it repairs and stretches carpets. |
Re: Carpet Repair
thanks Margaret & Rainbow for your advice.
I have today been into Irvines on Church Street, very helpful guy there (the owner?). He says can be done, but due to age of carpet (about 7 yrs), repair will still be visible, due to discolouration, prepared to do job for approx 50 quid, which I think is very reasonable. Don't have any offcuts, discarded in garage clearout a couple of years ago, so repair patch will have to come from under fixed furniture, which is 'as new'. Trying to persuade my wife that we should put this towards a new carpet instead! (Not winning just yet!) Thanks again to you all, Regards Gerard |
Re: Carpet Repair
When we had our renovations done( two years ago we had dry rot)I ditched the carpets and we now have varnished boards...with rugs.
I varnished the boards myself and it was really hard work. Any spills are easy to wipe up and contrary to what my husband said they are not overly noisy or cold. Anyway, it is good you are sorted out. |
Re: Carpet Repair
And the best thing about varnished floor boards Margaret is that when I come in from the garden with dirty shoes the muck just mops off. Not like a carpet which would want a good clean.

Re: Carpet Repair
Yes Gremlin. I have found them far easier to keep clean.
They are well worth the hard work. I sit here and look at them and am amazed that I could accomplish something which looks so good(that sounds like I am blowing my own trumpet, but the guy who did our decorating asked me if I wanted to go and work for him...he said I could varnish boards for his customers. Decency forbids me to repeat the answer i gave him). I put five coats of varnish on my boards. |
