Re: Postal Voting Issue
Definitely the 10 year residence. It is appalling that someone can walk off the next boat, never having contributed anything to this country, and vote in the next local/general election. Tony Blair won't do anything about it because of the slogan "Immigrants, vote Labour for your rights" - spread all over London at successive general elections.
Back on one of my favourite themes - rights carry responsibilities. Other countries will not allow non-nationals to vote - why not restrict it to those who are born citizens of this country and those who voluntarily take British nationality (mind you, a bit of a problem, since we collared half the world in colonial times and gave them all the right to British passports!). However, we are letting nationals of other countries vote in OUR elections ..... then we wonder how and why the lunatics have been given the key of the asylum. Postal voting doesn't work. It is open to appalling abuse, as has become obvious. If you can't get to the polling station, you can appoint someone as a proxy vote - I've done it for ex-pat friends before now. Postal voting is unnecessary and dangerous. |
Re: Postal Voting Issue
Are there no Asian members of the Accyweb? It seems a little unfair that such a strong statement can be made without a reply from the people it’s aimed at. What if the vote fixing had heavily influenced a white candidate THOTH (on the presumption that you are?) would you stand down and give up your right to speak in your own country because of the ignorance of others??

Well that response just says it all. I'm sorry that the Asian community has appalled you so greatly with there complete support for the mass murder of people leaping from skyscrapers in order to die that way instead of feeling there skin burn.
I hope that your views aren’t seen by the Asian community Mr. tealeaf because comments like that must be quite damaging to an already much misunderstood community. |
Re: Postal Voting Issue
I don't want to get into a race issue debate, all I want to say is that everyone should vote,I don't care what party you vote for, anyone who cheats should get jailed, and anyone can ask for a postal vote if you want one,So no excuse not to vote! Spoil the paper if you think that they are all a bunch of wasters, that's my 3p's worth!

The extent of the use of other peoples votes suggests to me that a large number of the community knew what was going on. Did any of them complain? I see an analogy in that situation with a current issue in Belfast. ie: domination of the many by the few. If this had been happening in Peel Ward to that extent I am sure I would have known about it and of course drawn it to the attention of the appropriate authority. My view centres around the amount of votes involved and as I consider it a community matter I would make the community relinquish the right to vote at the next election. Nothing at all to do with a racial issue. |

Re: Postal Voting Issue
Why are we talking about the Asian community? We are supposed to be ONE community, not splinter groups with differing interests. If we take that view, it is no wonder that there is racial unease and unrest.
Do we/the Asian community consider that our interests differ? If so, how and why? And what can/should we do about it? |

You can't put a blanket blame on one section of the community. |
