Postal Voting Issue

As it now seems that there is no doubt that skullduggery ( spelling ?) took place in Blackburn does anyone feel like me that the whole Asian community should be disenfranchised for the forthcoming local and national polls ?

I say that because I feel sure it didn`t happen without at least the majority of the community having some knowledge of what was going on.

I think I will keep my comments to myself on this one, for now.

Same here, my thoughts are my own and I will keep it that way, as you say for now. :)

no but i think anyone involved in it should be jailed or at the very least have their right to vote revoked for ever

i also think that you shoukd have to be in the uk for a minimum of 10 years before you get the right to vote

I cannot see any justification in withdrawing the franchise from the whole barrel simply because some of the apples are rotten. I do however support the idea that it should be a privilege to be earned. I also think that postal voting is clearly open to fraud and should be abandoned.

However, even though the Government has been aware of the frauds perpetrated in last year's elections they have declined the opportunity to disallow it for the coming General Election. Are they hoping that there will be a repeat performance perhaps?

Well THOTH, aren't you out to make a name for yourself? As you may have noticed I try to get my points across with just a little bit of humour (& occasionally tolerence), however after all that we have discussed you manage to put forward an extremely racist view! Yes, there is something wrong with a system that allows a few people to take advantage of the honest members of the public, but it won't have just been the Asian Community & it certainly doesn't mean that all of the Asian Community should be condemned for the sake of the few, if we are to follow your thinking the only advantage we have over the Nazis is that we don't have to pin the star of David on them, we can go by their colour!

(Did I stay on thread o.k. that time?):o

Fair point, not allowed to vote until you've lived in the country for 10 years, there's also the case of an ex-pat member of accyweb who got upset because the govenment where removing his right to vote even though he hadn't lived in this country for at least 5 years.

It's Troths point of view whether you agree or not that's what makes this a good forum, lots of different opinions to be discussed.

His name is THOTH, it IS his view & I for one think that it is a view shared by many stupid people BUT my view is that he is wrong. (the fact that I can disagree with such moronic waffle is what makes this a good site).

Bigotted attitude.

It happened in Blackburn so how would you feel if Blackburn were not allowed to return an MP at the next general election?

Jack Straw is Blackburns MP as we know so some people may argue you've answered your own question.

The really ironic part about it was that the guy in question had enough of the votes to win without the fraudulent votes......but the fraudulent votes were sniffed out and now he may go to Jail and his reputation is ruined forever.
Postal voting is, in my view,a very suspect way of conducting political affairs.

i cant understand why polititians need to commit ballot fraud

is the simple method of false prommises not working any more....?

Well seeing as this one was uncovered maybe that will make people think twice in future especially as he would have won anyway and now faces a possible jail sentence. I hope he is locked up and that will serve as a future deterrent.

Jack Straw Bagpuss? Are you indicating some might prefer to see less of him?:D He's not quite as ubiquitous as PB.

It was introduced to enable more people to vote.

I was unable to vote at one general election because I was working such long hours that I could not get to my polling station.

I would actually rather vote via internet - much much easier and more convenient.

As for immigrants voting, I am for the 10 year limit.
