looking for adopted sister

I was wondering if I could get advice on how to track my step-mum's sister who was adopted. We have run into a dead end. She was born 11th May 1950 and named Barbara Livesey, her mother sadly died in childbirth. The family was from Cherry tree B/burn but there was some relatives in Accy. I believe their surname was Walker and lived on Bold st or Walter st. We do not know where to go from here, we have contacted Salvation army only to be told that they cannot give any info only if she wants it. It has been a big family secret, we suspect that it may have been a private adoption and that to this day she may not be aware that she is adopted.
Any help would be really appreciated as we just don't know where to look, we don't want to give up.

Have you tried putting an ad in the local paper?

Re: looking for adopted sister

Just found out that laws changed Dec 30th 2005 and relatives can now access information regarding adoption so hopefully that will give us more info.
Thanks for replying.
