Re: Mclean family
Hello Flashy,
I'm from the same branch of the McLeans that you are talking about. My Great-grandad was Archies brother (or is that uncle?, depends on that timeline). However if you have any questions I've got quite a bit of info that I've managed to trace...... Ian McLean |
Re: Mclean family
ooo excellent, what was your great grandad called? if he was your great grandad that would make me and lilly your cousins ish lol
|
Re: Mclean family
He was called Jim. His son was also called Jim and also lived on Dill Hall lane....
|
Re: Mclean family
hold on so your grandad is jim mclean?
|
Re: Mclean family
He certainly was...... passed away in 1993 he was probably your grandads cousin.
Ian |
Re: Mclean family
my grandad has a brother called jim, lives in accrington somewhere, jim is my great uncle and also lillys great uncle

Re: Mclean family
i think ian is less's nephew, we arent related by blood i hope
|
Re: Mclean family
My Dad is Jim McLean and my Mum is Joan Westwood, Less's sister.
Jim McLean (my Dad) is the son of Jim McLean, son of Jim McLean son of Archie McLean (Born 1846) who settled in Accrington around 1890. The progenitor of us i.e. the father of Archie, Angus, Jim, Hugh, Flora etc who are our respective Grandparents and Great Grandparents. |

Re: Mclean family

Your lucky I could remember Jims dads first name! erm, what was it again? I'm sure it was on the tip of my tongue a minute ago, Hugh, erm Francis, no it's gone I'll get it before the nights out. P.S. Jims dad (Mr. Mclean) always lived up Dill Hall, just up from the traffic lights on the right hand side if that helps. |

Re: Mclean family
Quote:
I think you're onto the wrong family, Ian. I don't think you're related to me and Flashy. There's no Eva McLean (nee Seed) in our family. |
Re: Mclean family
I think so.... There aren't that many McLeans in Accrington and if we sit down and work out the relationships I'll bet you find we probably are related. give me a mo'
|
Re: Mclean family
Quote:
there are more Mcleans than you think, like i said, i went to school with a girl called Melanie Mclean and she used to live on manor gardens just up from the lights ...on the right of Dill Hall Lane and she wasnt related in any way to us |

Quote:
pmsfl, ive already said that...oh i'm going to bed, let me know if you come to any conclusions ;) |
Re: Mclean family
Nooope.
I'll bet it's not co-incidence...... I've been tracing the family tree for about ten years and believe me I've been up a few blind alleys and can smell a trail when when it's there!! |
Re: Mclean family
In 1901 there was only one McLean family in Accrington. Most of us will be related. At some point.
|
Re: Mclean family
Quote:
I can feel a headache coming on with all this now. I'm off up the wooden hill too. |
Re: Mclean family
No problem. It's a subject that can really hurt the old noggin' once you start looking at family relationships things can get confusing.... What's needed is for you to work out who your relations are are when they were born Then you can start tying events together.... so far I've traced back to 1781. If you can tie into my genealogy then there's at lot of work already been done!
|
Re: Mclean family
well me and lilly know who we are related to lol
|
Re: Mclean family
Have a look at the photo of a 1955 St Andrews school class. There is a McLean on it. I vaguely recall a Barbara Mclean and I think she lived up Dill Hall.
|
Re: Mclean family
Quote:
i dont know a Barbara Mclean i think there is a Barbara in Ians family |
Re: Mclean family
Hello Bob, She would be my Aunt in 1955 she would have been around 14 or 15 years old I think.
|
Re: Mclean family
Flashy/Lily,
As far as I know all of the McLeans originating from Accrington/Church/Ossy area in the last 30 years all descend from the same family - Archie and Mary, who came to Accrington from Paisley (Glasgow) via Tottenham (London). If you want any information on them, let me know and I'll let you have what I've got. Ian |
Re: Mclean family
How did you know there was a Barbara on my side? I didn't memtion her.....

Thanks Jaysay. Less seems to think I have a sense of humour when only trying to help, although did make me laugh. We have mutual friends, knew Fred and Sybil quite well and they were up Willows lane before I left. Just thought this was part of the Bartrams at the beginning of the thread which it obviously was.

Re: Mclean family
Denise Mclean was a teacher at Peel Park, lives next to Checco's Gt Harwood, her hubby is scottish ,she calls him Hammy but not sure of his christian name at all.
