Census information
Does anyone know if a Lancashire Census was done in 1821 and 1831? I understand a census was done in those years but maybe only a partial one. I had not heard of this until a couple of days ago. Can anyone help?

Re: Census information
Thought they started in 1841 Sue .. have got into this a little myself, if you hear of any, please post .. probably just Parish records.
Somebody posted here recently (cant find the thread unfortunately) about different names at each census. I came across this with my great grandfather .. slightly different name at birth, marriage/other census's and death .. was because they were all hand written and the 'registrars' interpretation of the handwriting. Apology for the wander. |
Re: Census information
Yes Census were taken in 1821 and 1831 but they were very basic and the results were not kept.
Hope this helps. |
Re: Census information
Have you tried the igi web site (jesus of latter day saints) I have found it really useful to find family members in lancashire pre 1841 some of the information they have goes back as far as the 1500's. The web site is also free to view.

Re: Census information
I wouldn't trust the IGI with any thing.I have the microfiche for Lancs and Yorks on one page it mentioned a Wesleyan Chapel in Church Kirk 1600.
I wrote to them asking where this Wesleyan Chapel was as John Wesley wasn't born till 100 years later. There reply was that it could haave been a banned religion like the Catholics were. They missed the whole point that John Wesley hadn't been born Retlaw. Quote:
