Hey Suebardo, You must of been a bit brainier than me then.Do you remember going to the annex at Woodnook primary in our first year & that evil headmaster Mr Nutter. I can see him now with his adolf hitler comb over & mrs meals (meals on wheels) was our year teacher.
|
Re: Hollins
Hi Mancie, You must of been there in the era of the real hardcases.
|
Re: Hollins
I started Hollins in 1977. It well confused me on the first day when I mistakedly went in the boys yard instead of the girls yard, that was really embarassing. Mr Bacon, Mr Cross, Mr Vizzard (remember learning the barn dancing for the Christmas parties) oh what memories!!!
|
Re: Hollins
I remember Mr Nutter. Scared me to death. I remember him walking around holding the cane behind his back. :(
|
Re: Hollins
I belive Hollins is now A college of technology or something now is that right? I took a look at the website. They look like real posh kids from up hollins lane who go now. Ive been living in Australia for over 20yrs & things have really changed, Ive only been back to Accy once since i moved over here.

Re: Hollins
From what I have seen taking my daughter to school at Hollins, most of the kids coming out of the houses up there are in St Chris's uniform.
It ain't posh and we moved over to get my daughter in to Hollins, but it is a good school. |

Re: Hollins
I remember once, a lad jumped of the fire escape from the art building. He was a couple of years above me, but i remember it like it was yesterday. It was a bloody long drop too, He just walked away on to the grass between the main building and the ROSLA block (rasing of school leaving age). & we used to stand on the fish pond when it was frozen over. The one that was outside the main building entrance. Mr Hale, did he teach R.E? I cant remember the name of that really fat music teacher. Do you remember the headmaster who came after Mr Parkinson? His name was Mr Scott? Or was he the head at the same time, I got the cane off him. Wasn't there a Ms Shuttleworth - english teacher?
|
Re: Hollins
I can remember Mr Scott being the deputy head in my time. Icicle works, I started Hollins in 1977 and left in 1982, didn't get moved up to L1 until the second year, was in
L3 in the first year, what was the name of our year tutor, all I remeber was she was some young woman with blonde hair that went on to marry some famous cricketer. I am trying to work out who you are!!! I remember Penny. My best mates were Lynne Broderick, Wendy Beckton and Susan Everett, think they were all in L3 |
Re: Hollins
I think Mr Parkinson left and then Mr Scott took over, he had a son called Jez Scott who went to Accy Grammar School who wen to teach in USA and died in a motorbike accident, so rumour has it?

Re: Hollins
Hi
My name is Shabir, I attended Hollins between 1970 and 1975, I remeber all the teachers that have been mentioned from that era, They were such good times. Some of you may have heard that someone drove a scrambler bike through the school, I was there when that happened and I think it was Robert Kissock. I have been friends with Mr Vizzard, Bradley, and Morley since leaving. my two boys go there now and I am also a governor at Hollins. Hollins is a very good school now probaly second to St Christophers. Someone mentioned the sports centre, I worked there between 1980 and 1985 before joining the Army, I returned to Accrington in 1994 and have been here ever since. If any one remebers me drop me a post. |

Anyone remember getting the bus from town up to the school and Mark and Vernon Sav used to harass that mentally disabled bloke who use to sweep the streets for the council. They used to throw water bombs at him out the window and other things.
|
Re: Hollins
I remember Headmaster Nutter What a **% hated me in 71 I must have had then cane the most any excuse he would cane me, mind you a couple of times I did deserve it.
he meant to give me six of the best but I wouldn't keep still and ended with about twelve of the best, funny he missed a couple of times and hit his own legs and that made it worse, oh the joy of my school years |
