I was there when Miss Gardiner left and Mr Holden took over, about one maybe two years before the school moved to Hartley Ave, prob around 1965. Miss Birch was my first teacher, she was a proper horror. I met her again a few years ago, she was a friend of an Aunt of mine, she hadn't changed much, she still disliked children!! I remember Fra Houlihan very well, he used to play footy with the local lads on Lower Antley St at the back of the church. Fra (later Dean) Stack was, IMHO not really priest material. If a girl went to mass without a hat and took communion, she got a knuckle knock on the head!! He was very much from the fire and brimstone school of priests. He and Miss Birch could have been an ideal couple in another life.LOL

Hi John,
Strangely, a day or two ago I was trying to remember all my classmates at St Oswalds.

The ones I remember are..... Dave Parr, Dave Kay, Chris Egan, Ricky Ormerod, Patrick Harkin, Michael Walsh, Phillip Salisbury, Paul Foot, James Varley, Tony Webber, Robert Dillon, Ian Rawcliffe, Jan Olstowski, Roman Syngyz, David Boothman, Colin ?, Paula Rae, Janice Garratty, Carole Rishton, Helen Towler, Anne Marie Differ, Patricia Mitton, Theresa Killian, Ann Gallagher, Susan Baker, Elizabeth Dillon. There are a few missing, I must be getting old!!!
I still see a few of them around, I was told that James Varley committed suicide when he was about 20, and Tony Webber died about 6/7 years ago.
I think you were a couple of years above me. Do you have a brother called Chris? If so, I know him through work.

Yes, I lived in Canning Street, a couple of streets away from the school. Did you live in the area. I knew a family named English, but didn't know any of the single individuals.
