Kathleen Jones, Moorhead High
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone knew the whereabouts of former Moorhead deputy head Kathleen Jones? She used to live on Cobham Avenue off Sandy Lane. I saw what could be her obituary from 2010 in the Accy Obs. Does anyone have any info? Cheers. |
Re: Kathleen Jones, Moorhead High
I think I have spoken to Kathleen since 2010. Her husband is Terry, also a retired teacher - both taught at the Grammar School/. Still in the phone directory at 36 Cobham Rd

Kath and Terry are still going strong. Hope to see them this July at Benjies prize day.

Re: Kathleen Jones, Moorhead High
Thank you very much indeed for the two replies to my request. I'm very grateful.
It turns out that I should have read the online obituary more closely. Wrong person! Obviously, thank goodness. I had wanted to get in touch with Kathleen to say 'thank you' for all the support she had given me (getting on for 40 years ago) at Moorhead. Some people do indeed remember her as a disciplinarian, but she was also a role model who gave far more than might be apparent at first glance. Thank you once again for this very welcome news. |

Best Teacher I ever had, glad to hear she's still going strong.

Re: Kathleen Jones, Moorhead High
What was her surname when she first started at the Grammar School?

Re: Kathleen Jones, Moorhead High
Birtwistle - her dad ran a second hand shop on Abbey St.
I was in the same class as her for my 5 years at the high school |

Kath Birtwistle - definitely not a teacher you got on the wrong side of! I remember her giving me a right rollicking for taking the Mickey in Religious Studies class. We could do with more teachers like her these days. Glad to hear that her and Terry are still trucking on.

Re: Kathleen Jones, Moorhead High
Agree she was a teacher you didn't want to get on the wrong side of but I remember meeting her after I left the Grammar School. She said that she wouldn't have had a clue what to do if somebody had stood up to her but we were all too scared to do it. Pleased to hear she and Terry are ok.
