Was he the mayor? Or a mason or something?

I believe it could be Alderman Rawson the Mayor of Accrington partner of the men's outfitting Smith & Rawson which was next to the Midland Bank |

Re: family picture - who is this man ???
https://www.hyndburnbc.gov.uk/the-mayors-office/7/ list them and their dates of office.
So you have a choice of: 1919 – 1920 : David Walton Muffit 1920 – 1922: James Waddington 1922 – 1923 : Edward Woolley 1922 – July 1925: Frederick Lord. Died in Office, July 1925 July 1925 – 1927 : Charles Wilkinson 1927 – 1928 : T E Higham 1928 – Feb 1930 : Richard Watson. Died in office, Feb 1930 |
Re: family picture - who is this man ???
Richard Ingram Constantine was in Mayoral office from 1931-1933.

Re: family picture - who is this man ???
In the Accrington Jubilee Souvenir book there is a photo of the town council in 1928 and the the image of R. I. Constantine doesn't resemble the gentleman in the photo in question. The only man who resembles the photo is Ald. A. S. Bury sorry if I have mudded the waters more.

Re: family picture - who is this man ???
Thank you for all your kind help members

Re: family picture - who is this man ???

Re: family picture - who is this man ???
You are welcome.
I have been looking for pictures of the two aldermen....R I Constantine...and AS Bury....but I cannot find any pictures. Maybe they are just in the Jubilee book. |
Re: family picture - who is this man ???
I would have expected that a formal mayoral portrait would be taken wearing civic robes. The drop on the end of the chain looks rather small. I wonder if he is chairman of one of the UDCs which surrounded Accrington borough.

Re: family picture - who is this man ???
I'll try and scan the photo for you but it will be tomorrow. If I remember correctly there was a thread about the Bury family on Accy Web but it was several years ago.

Or maybe this one. All worth a look if it turns out that this man is a Bury rather than a Constantine. |
Re: family picture - who is this man ???
Thanks for all your help so far
I think a member of Accrington Uban district council would be a good hunch ?? Would anyone have any idea how to search records or photo banks The name our family were given of this man is George William Boardman, but please be cautious that this name may have been made up or be factually incorrect Hope someone out there in Accrington can help me I’ve been searching and researching now for about 4 Years without success. |

Re: family picture - who is this man ???
Hi Accyborn
Thanks for your kind help on this May I ask how you seem to know who this person is, or is it just a guess ? How certain are you the pictures is Richard Ingram Constantine ? |

The attached photo is of the Accrington Council in 1928. I agree with Bob Dobson as to the chain the man in question is wearing and it is definitely not the Accrington mayoral chain and in all the photos of mayors in the Jubilee book they are all wearing mayoral robes.

Re: family picture - who is this man ???
In the photo on my last post R. I. Constantine, who is third from left on the middle row, could be the man in question if the original photo later in the 30s than suggested and his hair had gone grey. Constantine was first elected to the council in 1919 and Bury in 1901.

Thank you so much for this

Re: family picture - who is this man ???
Unfortunately I don’t see much of a resemblance to any of these gentleman
To me the nearest is Front row – second to far right Ald. G.H Ellis , but sadly I think he is not on here !! |
Re: family picture - who is this man ???
Had a closer look - agreed A.S Bury or G.H Ellis are the nerest matches
Maybe A.S Bury is the match Would we know what the Christian initals A.S stand for ?? |
Re: family picture - who is this man ???
Arthur Smith Bury
|
Re: family picture - who is this man ???
I've informed the bloke who was enquiring - Henry Bury.

Hi Black December, no it was not a guess entirely, I remember seeing Constantine in later years, and I thought the photo reminded me of him. I realise now that whoever he is, and looking at that photo, he was not the Mayor of Accrington because the fob on the chain is not big enough. You say the photo was taken by Moffitt so it is likely he could be somebody local, Chairman, maybe of Church or Clayton Urban Councils. |
Re: family picture - who is this man ???
