Has anyone got any furniture /kitchen equipment etc etc that they willing to get rid of for free? My 3 Polish friends would appreciate anything that's going begging as they are currently sleeping on airbeds in an unfurnished house! But remarkably they are still smiling! Am around for the next couple of days prior to hols, please pm me if you can help out.:)

I've got some pans that they can have.

Where abouts are you, I can try and drop them off.

I'll see if there is anything else as well.

Hi Lindsay!

Obviously, can't help with your Polish friends. How are you and Moon doing in getting enough ackers to keep your petz fed and to kennel them when you go on holiday?

Thank you all for the kind offers of furniture and stuff for the lads;Peter,Michael and Jake are totally baffled as to why complete strangers are giving them a tv and suite! Thanks to Removal Man,Park 381 and Entwisi for donating stuff;plus Ossyclogger and Pam and Andy for the tv and suite. They are very grateful indeed. Now if anyone can tell me if it's legal to work a 14 hour shift with an hour's break;that's the next hurdle to cross! I think it isn't but some firms seem oblivious to this law when it's applied to non English speaking employees!

Everything they need to know should be somewhere on the ACAS site. Quite an interesting read - found out some new stuff.

Think I have just sorted that, no need for you to steal any Robin :D

Re: Begging thread.

You must allow staff a break of at least 11 hours between shifts. A 14 hour shift is illegal. You can’t include meal breaks to get around the rules. Have them look at the following link.

Re: Begging thread.

I am not sure if you can opt out of the 11 hour rest like you can the 48 hour week. Swopping shifts is a regular event for shift workers - this can mean only 8 hours rest ie from 10pm till 6am. Many nurses work late shift then early shift as a routine ( or they used to )
