Re: House for sale - ebay

Are all the houses in Accrington boarded up ? or have they missed a few <grin>

Might start a flame war but at least I am one post nearer to upgrading my rank...

Who in their right mind would bid on a house when they haven't even seen a photograph of it? Those people on eBay have no idea what they are doing! The "winner" will have no end of problems. Aaaw I feel like emailing someone with some photos.

Re: House for sale - ebay

The thing I find odd is that people are willing to bid on a house they haven't even seen a photo of and have no idea of the location/area or condition of the house.

I doubt very much that the house in the photos on here has been valued at £30,000. If it has then mine must be worth a small fortune. But I was wondering if we were talking about the same house at one stage.

I wonder if the eventual winner on eBay could complain the the vendor if the house doesn't value at £30,000?

It's like buying a pair of shoes without trying them on first, you just wouldn't do it. I assume that the sale will go through the correct legal channels, searches etc. If these properties really are earmarked for the bulldozer it should show up in the search (if the solicitors are doing their jobs right)

Re: House for sale - ebay

Oh I've just noticed that the eBay listing has been amended and any references to £30,000 have now been removed.

That could complicate the issue if the reserve had been met and someone who won had been under the impression that the house had been valued at £30,000 and then had nothing in writing to back that up.

I'm learning to be more cautious on eBay both as a seller and a purchaser.

I wonder how you go on if you buy something like this and then the council comes along and slaps a compulsory purchase order on it. I've been told they are doing that with Porter Street.

I think that the searches and surveys are actually only complusory when you are buying with a mortgage - if it's a cash sale it's up to you to make sure it's worth the money you're paying. I think that solicitors are only complusory for the exchanging of deeds - but I might be wrong! (And not for the first time!)

PS - Tealeaf- how much have they bid on you so far?

Re: House for sale - ebay

I was meaning if the council is clearing the houses in the area and compulsory purchases the houses in order to demolish them.

Re: House for sale - ebay

I know that searches and surveys are compulsary with a mortgage, but they are not difficult to arrange or even do yourself if you don't need a mortgage. A search should show if a CPO is planned for the property. Surely anyone with an iota of sense would organise a search, or perhaps not bid for an unseen property in the first place..

I don't know what the current bid is for this house, but I am reliably informed that someone has offered £15.000 for Tealeaf.
