|
Re: that one about gay cowboys...
brokeback mountain
must have been pushing too hard once mounted..! the film got good reviews but it hasnt gone down to well in the southern parts of the usa all the cowboys are fuming because apprently it protrays cowboys as gayboys lol remember they are southern afterall ;) |
Re: that one about gay cowboys...
Haven't seen Brokeback Mountain (yet) but did go to see Just Like Heaven and thoroughly loved it. It completely loved up to my expectations, which is rare.
|
Re: that one about gay cowboys...
Looking forward to seeing Brokeback Mountain ....... Heath Ledger :wub8:
Is Just Like Heaven a weepie? Will I need my tissues? From the adverts I've seen I am right in thinking it's on similar lines to Ghost? Is it as good as Ghost? |
Re: that one about gay cowboys...
A gay cowboy film? Is nothing sacred? This is outrageous...poor old John Wayne must be turning in his grave. Unless, of course,it's a comedy...something like Carry on Cowboy with them two old queens,Williams & Hawtrey. 'Owt else is totally unacceptable.
|
Re: that one about gay cowboys...
Just Like Heaven is funny and endearing and if your a soppy ha'porth like me it's a little bit of a weepy. It's not really like ghost at all but if I tell you why I'll spoil it.
Another fave of mine recently was Flight Plan. That got me too, especially when he wasn't there in the snowy courtyard. |
Re: that one about gay cowboys...
Gay people have been around as long as man. Why should the matcho world of cowboys be any different. Every great power has had them but the church frowns on it. We are after all still animals if somewhat refined with beliefs and customs.
|
Re: that one about gay cowboys...
I haven't seen it yet, but hope too soon.
It's had rave reviews from all the critics, the cinematography is meant to be stunning, and it's rumoured to get Oscar nominations for it's actors. The story is apparently about love, regardless of who was loving whom. |

John Wayne was the best............ |
Re: that one about gay cowboys...
By all accounts the scenery in Wyoming is spectacular.

Re: that one about gay cowboys...
I wonder if there will be a remake of Raw Hide.................
|
Re: that one about gay cowboys...
i always thought they walked like that cos of riding the horses ?
|
Re: that one about gay cowboys...
It's OK everybody...we can all relax. The film is set in 1963, so it is not a proper cowboy film. Phew! I was worried there for a moment.

Re: that one about gay cowboys...

Doris Day's Calamity Jane has been a lesbian pin up for nearly half a century.
Whip crack away, whip crack away.;) |
Re: that one about gay cowboys...
Ah, Calamity Jane, one of my all-time favourite films. I have it on video. Didn't know Doris was a lesbian though! Mind you, "Once I had a secret love" is in there.
|
Re: that one about gay cowboys...
Thanks Gary, Doris Day was one of my childhood sweethearts and you go and shatter the illusion by suggesting that she was a rug raider……
There's a new film to be released later in the spring about a love starved Sheppard’s wife in the welsh boarders who falls in love with the Milk Maid. It’s called Offa's Dyke. |
Re: that one about gay cowboys...
*L*
that new memoirs of a geisha looks good - zhang ziyi is just beautiful... *sigh* |

i am almost sure she was NOT a lesbian ,and she has a fantastic son.... |
Re: that one about gay cowboys...

She was a pin up for lesbians because of her Calamity Jane role, I suspect for her sharp shootin', tom boyishness, and her dislike of frilly frocks. |
Re: that one about gay cowboys...
Calamity Jane may have been a lesbian. :p

Re: that one about gay cowboys...
i loved all the doris day films.....they always left you with the feel good factor,,,

Re: that one about gay cowboys...
This film well deserves it's Oscar nominations.
A sad, poignant, beautifully shot and acted film. The dialogue for the whole film is probably only a couple of pages long, what's not spoken is more powerful for that fact. Anybody worried about gratuitous adult scenes need not fret. My friend Milly in Italy has seen it four times, and over there it's become the chick flick of the moment. The film, like life, doesn't have any conclusions, but is well worth watching. |
Re: that one about gay cowboys...
Heard that this film is one that has to be on the to see list
|
Re: that one about gay cowboys...
...not much action, of any kind, but just gave it to my Ma to watch knowing she'll love it.
|
Re: that one about gay cowboys...
good film - watched on dvd last night - would recommend it !
|
Re: that one about gay cowboys...
Reminds me of the old joke "two gay cowboys.. one says "yup" the other says "yep"
|
Re: that one about gay cowboys...
Well, well, well. So there were all the pundits saying that this film was going to do the biggest sweep of the Oscars since Titanic or Gandi. What happened? One award for the Jap director, best screen play and then nowt.
I have not seen, nor have any intention of seeing this film, but I do know for a simple fact that to watch two hours of actors botty bashing in cowboy hats is a pursuit that must appeal to only a few (presumably film critics). Personally, I had a few quid on Wallace & Vomit to pick up the gold-plated statuette. Honest entertainment with a beginning, a plot and a happy end - and moreover put togeather by a Lancastrian! Why can't we have more films like this instead of puffters poncing on the prairies? |

you western film buffs must remember 'Shane' c1953 - what a film - Alan Ladd in his heyday, cracking film, still very watchable.
