Mystery Guest
Seem to have a bird stuck in the cavity of my kitchen wall, cannot understand how it got there .. just cheeps sadly now and then.
Apart from demolishing the whole wall, don't think there is anything I can do. Just wanted to share it with somebody, making me sad. :( |
Re: Mystery Guest
It’s a shame is that, especially when there is nothing you can do only listen to its cries.
You’ve probably got a broken wall vent grill on your outside kitchen wall at ground level and the bird has probably hopped into the hole while searching for food etc. You never know it may spot the outside light coming in and with a bit of luck make it’s escape. |
Re: Mystery Guest
Put your Hi-Fi in the kitchen & play the birdie song very loud, this will either:-
1/ Scare it out. 2/ Keep it company during it's last moments. C/Drown it's dying twittering so you don't have to listen to it! http://www.animationlibrary.com/Anim...holds_baby.gif Perhaps if it's this bird you're lucky it got lost! |

Re: Mystery Guest
No cavity wall insulation then? :(
We thought we had a wood pidgeon trapped in our chimney this morning. We could hear cooing, very loud, and the cat was staring at the fireplace in sheer horror. It wasn't stuck at all, it was sitting on the chimney top, warming itself in the snowy weather, and cooing down the shaft. |
Re: Mystery Guest
after the chirping stops give it 2 or 3 days and the smell of its dead rotting body should start to appear
if it dosnt then that means the birdie got out ;) |
Re: Mystery Guest
At least while it's chirping you'll know you haven't left the gas on in the kitchen.
|
Re: Mystery Guest
Oh Katex....I hope it finds a way out. It has made me sad too :(
|
Re: Mystery Guest
Well, thank you some of you for your support. To the comedians on here, know you all big softies, just pretend to be hard.
Westender: It is an adjoining wall with next door, so maybe they can hear it to, and on their side. Len: no broken wall vents and bother! just turned security light on and think bulb gone now so no chance of it seeing the light. Less, Chav, Garinda and Gayle :Banane24: Margaret ... Thank you. Oh dear >>>>>> gone quiet. |
Re: Mystery Guest
:( That's so sad katex

Re: Mystery Guest
I was only trying to show off.:(
I love birds. I feed them, house them, and used to have a pet one. It is very sad.:( |
Re: Mystery Guest
Yes, sorry for being flippant. It happened once at my parents house and it came down the chimney that was blocked up. I ended up sleeping on the floor downstairs because I couldn't stand the awfulness of it.

Re: Mystery Guest
I saw three chimney stacks on a trailer on the M6 yesterday complete with chimney pots. No birds nest on the top though.

Re: Mystery Guest
Nearly nine years ago I was woken up with a bird fluttering about in my loft I was about 3 months pregnant with libby anyway I couldnt get back to sleep as I wanted to get it out so I got it a small saucer of milk or water cant remember what and some bread soaked in it and I cimbed up the ladders. I saw were it had come from in the roof.
Anyway I came back down and tryed to get to sleep again but by this time I was wide awake and couldnt so we decided to get up and have a drive to my mum's, when we got there my brother asked me if I had seen my dad and I replied no anyway he told me my Grandma had died early that morning and there was nothing they could have done. My grandma had died at the same time I was woken up with the bird 6.25am. I will never forget it. |
Re: Mystery Guest
Oh Kate, that's a shame (adjoining wall). How on earth did it get in?
I'd go next door and tell them to take a brick or 2 out of the wall, their side (you don't want the hassle). Explain to them that the prevailing winds will precipitate an updraught in a Northerly direction (or Southerly, or whichever direction they are from you) and if the bird dies they will have the resulting smell. Do this in your best scientist voice, as though you really know what you're talking about, and it might work. ;) |
Re: Mystery Guest
Oh that's really sad, poor little thing.
When my Mum and Dad moved house I heard a noise in the front bedroom upstairs and Mum and I were both afraid to go in as we didn't know what it was. She was saying they'd have to sell the house again because it was haunted! My Dad went up to have a listen and came back down laughig his head off. A bird had fallen down the chimney and was behind the blocked off fireplace. It had only been blocked off with wood so he ripped it out and set the bird free - it proceeded to flap soot all over the bedroom! |
Re: Mystery Guest
Well, no chirps since last night >> thinking positive that it made its way out.
Thanks everyone >> ok know the comedians were only trying to make me feel better about it. Brought many a fallen bird home in a cardboard box and lined it with cotton wool when I was little, never seemed to survive though. Read recently that you should just leave them, as more often than not the parents will be watching and eventually the little one will recover and find the strength to get back to safety. Talking of things in your loft, every year get bats nesting under my eaves, can hear them squeeking. Rang the council as worried may do some damage or carry some sort of disease. Didn't realize that they were a protected species at this stage and the council lad said "oh, you lucky thing" Uh !! .. you don't wake up to black droppings all over yer car every morning. However, he put my mind at rest that they wouldn't do any damage. Didn't get them last year and missing them now. Come back bats >> all is forgiven. |
Re: Mystery Guest

Re: Mystery Guest
There are alot of things concerning animals that also make me sad. In fact, some make me sick. Only last week I read in the paper of the annual Canadian baby seal cull. It was nauseating to read.
Here we have a bunch of lads, slogging away in the one of the most hostile of work environments known to man and doing their best to protect their jobs and livelihoods in the local fishing industry when along flys in this loud-mouthed billionaire scouser with his vegatarian parasite mrs shouting for the killing to stop. I know if I had have been on the ice, I would have ignored the vermin and predatory baby seals and gone straight for Mr & Mrs Paul McCartney. Indeed, I would have taken upmost delight in using Mrs McCartneys own peg-leg on her own self-rightous head and that of her husband. |

Re: Mystery Guest
Oh no !! Got another one, sorta' pulls at the heart strings ..there seems to be a vent type ridge tile on my roof, wonder if they are going in through there .. ah well, may find out soon as, after the winds, think most may need replacing. :(

Re: Mystery Guest
I adore birds (only the ones with wings and beaks) ;)
the only type im not so keen on are starlings but i still feed them-had loads on my lawn this morning (assuming because the rain bought all the worms out). During a midnight run in the car me and a friend saw some Grouse the other night,i got so excited!hehe Living down south i was fortunate to see Cormorants and other birds you dont find up here. Im gona turn into a twitcher soon-got some books and binoculars for mesel :) not sure Jack will be keen on the idea of sitting on the edge of fields in silence for hours-but hey! I'm sure i was born later than i was meant to-not many 22 year old 'twitchers' about :( |
Re: Mystery Guest
Has it or has it not escaped? the smell and the inevitable bluebottles will be the proof of the pudding.

A LITTLE bird, with plumage brown, Beside my window flutters down, A moment chirps its little strain, Then taps upon my window-pane, And chirps again, and hops along, To call my notice to its song; But I work on, nor heed its lay, Till, in neglect, it flies away. So birds of peace and hope and love Come fluttering earthward from above, To settle on life's window-sills, And ease our load of earthly ills; But we, in traffic's rush and din Too deep engaged to let them in, With deadened heart and sense plod on, Nor know our loss till they are gone. |
Re: Mystery Guest
:( What a poignant little poem.
I wonder how those poor little birds get into the cavity? What a shame that you can't find it and block it up. |
