Karma

This has prolly been mentioned before but how do people feel about having negative karma either removed, or a name being put to it? I'm sure this can easily be done (another forum i use disabled negative karma).

I just feel that if people want to be negative they should not be able to hide behind the fact that they don't have to show who they are. Perhaps it's just me, but I find it rather cheaky when someone leaves negative feedback slagging you off without daring to leave their identity, almost cowardly...

Thoughts?

Neil 16-07-2006 21:30

Re: Karma

If people had to leave their name I doubt much negative would happen because of the expected neg return. By being annoymous someone can say what they want without fear of reprisal. I take it you have some neg, don't we all. Who have you been upsetting? Was it funny/insulting/boring?

andrewb 16-07-2006 21:34

Re: Karma

I havn't upset anyone in particular, well not that im aware, if they wish to say it out loud and explain then heres their chance ;)

Was from the 'theft' thread where I told people to not make mountains out of molehills. :D

I guess I can understand the reason behind it, that you would just give negative right back.. but it's very 'behind your back' when people can say rude things in karma then your chating to them the next day none the wiser. :p

Actually, that's true isn't it. I could give bad karma, sign it from Neil and everyone would think he was the mean one.

Btw for the record - I've only ever once given bad karma and I did sign it my self.

There is no real way of knowing who gave karma. Just because it is signed means nothing.

I just got this one - "Meet me in the park at midnight for some fun - accymel"

I wonder if it is genuine ;)

Re: Karma

if you work out how many was took and who's on line then you know most of the time. Just wait and take some back . I'd be on about 300 karma now if it wasn't for the witch hunt :D the nice decent people of this forum give me positive cos I've got my own mind, even if they don'talways agree, the nasty take it because they haven't got there own mind.
there are others of course, the odd times when someone genuinely doesn't agree with what I've put and rates that post on that content and signs it. if I can see where that person is coming from then i wont retaliate, but more often than not it's because they haven't read the post right and have automaticaly given me negative rather than posting and clarifying it first.
non of the other sites I use bother with karma even though it's enabled. If they dissagree they say so in the post.
I've come to the conclusion therefor that the karma is best ignored, pretend it doesn't exist or you'll just end up an *** licker and not have your own mind on here.

I think that a clear blobby is from someone who has tried to give or take karma but doesn't have enough posts to do so. You need to have 100 posts under your belt to give or take karma.. Hope this helps.:D

but usually its just summat to do :) and it doesnt effect there karma as such cus they then cry about it and all the little sheep come running to give some back and there karma goes up more than ever before..

Re: Karma

yes but you were wrong, you jumped to conclusions.you just can't admit it :D

Theres a difference between using at as a weapon kipax and doing it to wind people up. karma vendeters are rife on this site now and it's not helping the site one little bit. as I've said I've lost about 200 to the same group of 6 people. It may wind me up but I also think how sad nasty and vindictive they are. But they do it because they think this site is 'their baby' and as an outsider I shouldnt be on here.

So it's not the karma that the issue, it's the way its done, why it's done, and the comments left.
I'm sure they think if they take all my karma I'll stop coming on, well I won't, I'll come on even more.

thing is...what does it matter? i didnt like the free bit that was insulting.. but the karma.. i could ahve complained in the thread and loads would have replaced it ten fold.... but i didnt..its hardly that important..

i will continue to leave bad karma where i think it will most cause mayhem hehe... so i aint gonna complain too much when i get it... best to do it in threads i am not involved with... its harder to get sussed..:)

Sorry Bagpuss, I can't even remember what it was for now. I don't give bad karma because I feel absolutely rotten about it so I'd give you some good karma now to balance it out but I need to spread it around a bit more. That just shows how often I give out karma because it's ages ago that I gave some to you.

bagpuss, i said in the thread that it wasn't mels negative that I had a problem with, although i thought it was unnecessary even if desserved, it was the other 5 lots, the witch hunt, and the with hunt thread which seems to have disappeared . It was mels thread no one elses, so no one elses right to get involved. I know I'm far from the funiest, far from the most interesting, I don't do anything or go many places to be able to be interesting. What I do try to do is join in which is what this site is all about and what keeps it going. no regular posters, no site.

Well it matters to you Len if I choose to give madhatter bad karma then it is up to me and you as a moderator should not use this imformation in your posts. As Roy has said before he has the karma system like this and he wants it to remain anonymous if the posts chooses it. Oh dear, I seem to have hit a nerve? I did not mention you in my post and I do not think it is right to purposely give bad Karma for the soul purpose of winding some one up in the hope that others get the blame for it. But you seem to have a guilty conscience, I can check if you like? wooooa there cowboy... so yer not gonna hand in yer badge and gun and mosey on into the sunset then ? hehehehe :)

i dont recall seeing any instruction or rules as to what karma is for and how to use it.. so who is to say what the correct or incorrect use is... how do you know its not there for the reason i use it... to wind people up... might be?.... gotta admit i would be surprised.... but ya get me drift:)

I have to say that the karma system is great fun... I will admit to getting miffed once when someone deducted karma for a completely nonsensical reason and was quite offensive with their comment but other than that....BRING IT ON!!!! :D :p

Oh and if I give negative I have ALWAYS signed my name if for no other reason to see if the other person responds.. as yet they have accepted the neg karma.. maybe cos I signed it :)

whoah does that mean I'm gonna get whacked now??? :o

lmao thanks len and kipax you have both made me laugh tonight, bagpuss, len didn't give it away, you did lol, and by the looks of it did to len too, because I doubt if he went to check, just to accuse you. So you deserve that karma more than ever now because you've been more honest than you intended and caused some great entertainment.:)

I don't think any of us can decide who is or isn't an interesting or funny poster on Accy Web. We all have different likes and dislikes.

We all appreciate different things that other members care to share with us here. If we disagree we have the availability to answer back in a thread.

If there weren't people who post as regularly as Madhatter does then there would be nothing to read and the site would be dragged to a slow death.

The more some people make a fuss when they lose karma just encourages some members to take more for a reaction. Constant crying about karma losses only results in sympathy karma from the nice members once.;)

No not really. We usually only look if something is going on. It would take far too much time if we had to try and read everyone’s Karma comments. End of the day most of it is just banter and the odd shout. hehe

But it’s true. When bagpus gets me the boot apply for the moderators job and you’ll see how time consuming it really is. Tracking down some ones Karma comments is a task but if needs be, it will be done.

:)

Re: Karma

Too true Len.

The mods come in for some stick, but I wouldn't do their fairly thankless task for a gold clock.(Yes Neil, clock...don't misquote me.);)

I'm sure they have better things to do than read every single karma comment.

I feel I need to add.... As said i do leave bad karma and dont sign it and watch the fish wriggle.... my sense of humour I guess...
But I never and I mean 100% absoloutly NEVER leave comments that are personally insulting or anything like that as has been mentioned people recieve.. thats a whole different kettle of fish...

15 years on the internet and I have never typed the f word.(I even * it out if quoting where possible). i manage to argue without lowering to certain levels..

I play nice but not fair hehehe

Re: Karma

People get really twitched about Karma....I suppose it is like when you got 'stars' for good work when you were a child....and the folk who say it doesn't matter to them, are the ones who seem to want it the most.

Of course everyone likes praise......it is human thing!

Margaret Pilkington 18-07-2006 14:00

Re: Karma

And while we are on the subject of Karma........I hate being 'really nice'....that is what my Karma says about me.....I just want to be a beacon of light!
