today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver
this lunchtime I was in the local shop next to my work buying some lunch and at the front of the queue were 2 young guys causing a bit of hassle with the shop assistants, it turned out that the 2 guys were drunk and were buying more drink..they eventually left with said drink and wandered off..but as I left the shop they were sitting in their car and shouting at me as I walked by, so I clocked their reggy plate, got back into work and called the local cop shop, gave them the details required and was told that they would put local cars out to stop them to see if my story was correct..I got a phone call later on in the day from the police to say that 1 man has been charged with drink driving - who was clearly over the limit and the other man has been charged with threatening behaviour and at that the officer on the phone thanked me.
but some of the guys at work gave me some grief for being a 'grass' and that I should have let them get on with it as they werent bothering me..I said its not the point - what if they had crashed their car into one of their families cars....they didnt quite grasp what I was saying but thats up to them..but it did get me thinking...when do you turn a blind eye to things... |
Re: today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver
Well done. They could have easily drove off later and killed somebody. You're not a "grass", you have maybe saved a life, and a whole load of heartache.
I'd give you some karma, but i'm all spent for today. Restasured though, it's on the way tomorrow. :D |
Re: today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver
I think you did the right thing, especially with the drink driving, I'm sure the guys you work with would change their mind if a member of their families were hurt or killed by someone drink driving, well done, I'm quite shocked the police acted on your phone call though I dont have much faith in them.

Re: today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver
I was expecting to read that the police hadn't done anything too!
You certainly did the right thing. As you said the driver could so easily have crashed the car and killed someone. |
Re: today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver

Re: today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver
People who do such things need taking off the road. They are not just risking being caught they are risking everyones live on the road. There was a story in the paper a while back of a 18yr old from Liverpool, no insurance, no tax, no MOT and in a stolen car and was speeding round streets. Killed a 5yr old girl. Punishment? £200 fine. Imagine if that was your little girl, is your child only worth £200?

Re: today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver
Cheers Glasgow Guy, i'm without car now for 12 month
Wasn't me really, I never drink and drive and if I have had a skin full I dont even drive the day after. You did the right thing, ignore what your "mates" at work say. Have you read Gayles thread about "what if"? In her case it was about missing an accident, on this one we could have been talking about a childs life |
