haven't seen it yet due to being exiled in another country - from what I've read here it doesn't sound very functional but does it look good? it has to look better than the old one. Any pics online anywhere?

oh dear. It doesn't look good at all from those photo's. 8m for that?  I'm trying to work out the size, I assume in the first photo that the regency pub is in the background and they didn't knock the old market hall down so that means the new market is very small. Very small indeed and it cost 8m?

Old market hall is still there.. but building (still) new bits where the outdoor market was.. they have rebuilt the new outdoor market.. to sort of be on the sides of the old building...

the whole layout is bloody silly IMHO

The market is back in the same spot as it was in 1950
says a lot for modernisation.
Which is why the the bus station is such a mess.
im suprised no one has been killed on it yet busses all over the place with little room for them to move ??? ???

It is a complete waste of money. Why have they halved the size of the bus station? I agree it is completely dangerous. Does anyone on the council have any brains?

sorry to say this but th e market is ok but as the the stalls near the fish market i avoid like the plague.,it absolutely makes u wanna wretch esp on a sun when the smell is stakle fish ewwwww. :( .

I Agree with you there the fish market should be by itself away from general goods and its always wet and slippy there too.
at least we can walk away those tradeing there must be sick of it.

of the market being pulled down and the new one being built and some general pics of accy if you want a copy
just e-mail me .
if you live local then i can give you cd otherwise you pay postage. plus 50p per cd i will also put some little games and utils on the cd for you. these will be ithere shareware or freeware.

Have you seen the paper tonight ( thursday)
fish market stalls and the drains i must admit it smells
not only that but the rest of the market shops are way behind with the building work . ???
the first shops will open in september should have been may
but they are months behind

The fish market really does smell so bad it should be shut down. If the products they sold where quality then it would not smell nearly as bad. I would never buy any fish products from them, ever.

the smell is from the water trapped in the drains that the fish stall owners wash there stalls down with at the end of the day its NOT THE FISH the fish is fresh.
i get fish from them all the time.
when they built the (new) ???market the drains are not big enough or they are blocked already not sure which.

:( it doesnt matter as far as im concerned the fish market should be totally seperated from the market itself away from other stalls,,,most markets i know all have seperate fish markets

The fish market used to be on its own .
but why they decided to put it with the other stalls  ???
they should have made a seperate area on broadway where it was .

So, the smell is from the drains? Are you sure? As a customer I just don't feel confident in buying fresh fish from a place that smells like rotting fish. I would have thought that in the creation of the new market the traders must have at least given some input? If a pub smelt like a brewery would you sup there?

The fish is fresh at least on 1 of the stalls i know the owner and know he gets fresh fish, and most of the pubs in Accy do stink but plenty still sup there

I got some fish (cod) the other day and some shrimps they were both really fresh and tasted great.
i had to fight the cat for the shrimps though  :-/

i agree with the smelly drain problem but give the market a chance to even get up and running before we all condem it though you are right about the layout......i like the escalators looks like a prime begging site gonna take my guitar and heinz 57 on a bit of string!

I heard  that Witherspoons were pulling out of the intended spot on Broadway, but still have there eyes on other venues in Accrington.

If this is the shop I'm thinking of (where Vodaphone used to be) it is mainly console games to buy and swap.

It is supposed to be selling game console hardware and software and you can also exchange,,yes it is the one where Vodaphone was.
You are supposed to be able to try before buying them though.

Well JJB's is going into the new shopping centre, that I know.
Don't think they would pull it down anyway, its part of the Arndale centre, they would probably knock through if anything.

I have applied for the new JJB store. It will be directly accross fromt he exsisting store now, and next to Wilkinsons.
I have it on good authority that behind JJB will be 'Game' and this will be opening by the end of the year, or beginning of next.

Are we getting a Hmv, or atleast a Reidy's type shop in Accrington like Blackburn has. I wouldnt mind a decent record shop, woolworths isnt too good when it comes to any thing else other than pop  :(

All I know is there are to be 9 other shops apart from JJb and Wilkinsons. I think maybe a poundsaver shop is one of them.

We could do with a decent music shop in Accy though! ;)

ukbug i take medication every day. will there be a chemist in the new market? i think witherspoons are playing cat and mouse maybe the cat will work for the fish stalls the mouse work for the council they play all day?

What new market???? There is a new Market building, but its the same old stalls that we have always had. Needs some vents near the fish section. Apart from that its OK.
