weirdness

Not sure if its just me but do you find there are some amazing co-incidences that happen around words/experiences? I often find that when I learn a new word or subject it seems to be prominant for the next few weeks. i.e. people talk about it, its mentioned on TV, in papers or in random conversations.

Today on the quiz, I had a question about what colour a John Deere is, I had to guess it as it happens I got it right but then quite freakily I went on a photography website and there was a picture of a John Deere! This sort of thing seems to happen a lot to me, anyone else notice it?

There is a reason for it. Once you have come across something, it becomes a trigger factor for a time. Whereas previously you would not have paid attention to a mention of whatever it is, with the trigger factor you pick up on it. It's all part of a psychological phenomenon called "selective attention". It's not that it wasn't there before, it's just that you didn't notice.

it's a bit like the car you drive, before getting it you may not have seen many around but as soon as you have one you see identical ones frequently

yes but explain why 30 seconds after having to guess what teh hell it was I was looking at a picture of one on a completely unrelated website(which I wasn't searching for one, just reading about pinhole photography)

I know what you're saying entwisi, a friend of mine calls it synchronicity.

I had a weird one a few years ago when someone sent me a book by Doris Stokes and I've never even been interested in the woman and in the post on the same day I got a letter from (of all people!) David Icke recommending that I read a cetain book - and it was the one by Doris Stokes. I think I did read it but it can't have impressed me much because I can't remember what the heck it was about.

Auto-Suggestion plays a part in a lot of things,But what about when it happens the other way around. For instance, something that regularly happen's with me is whilst chatting to my wife the person on the telly says the same thing that I have said immediately after, whether it be a word or a sentence. Similar to that one - how about when you ask a family member a question and someone on the TV answers it? Such as me saying to teenage daughter "Are you going out on Saturday?" and someone on TV says "I'm going to the cinema wiv me mates"
