Pensioners too, go to the charity shops. Last year I took 3 winter coats...nothing wrong with them I had just got fed up of them.....and one elderly lady (I have to be careful here, because I now fall into that category...but she was older than me)bought two of them and said what a God send it was, to find something warm that she could afford.

Oooh I got a lovely wool coat that was practically new, a debenhams one, and I paid £3.95 for it. Its a really good coat but I dont wear it too often now as I think it makes my bum look big! It will certainly be a god send in the winter though!

Pensioners are the nice ones who tend to give their books back to the charity shops :D got to love them for that.

much better at a charity shop .super markets recycling are sometimes private business and the clothes dont get reused as clothes

Oh we do specialise G; pound shops, charity shops and pie shops ! I am baffled that they had no other takers for that unit; the rent must be really low as it's been empty so long and it's not a bad size. It's privately owned btw, but all the same, surely we deserve better than this ???

Would have thought our "Council" would have had some thing to say about yet another charity shop.

For instance the home we have in Accrington is the first of it's kind this side of the Pennines, we provide a service specifically designed for providing deafblind people with a safe and secure environment to live in, and we really do need every penny we can get to keep this service going.

We have a thriving Blind Society in Accrington, they recently refurbished their premises on Bank st at a cost of some £95,000+ funded by their own charity work.

Yes but does the RNIB have a capability or facilities to help those who are blind and deaf?

We could stick one on the Coppice and call it a Panopticon (sorry Gayle, I couldn't help myself.);)

Could all be part of the masterplan.
Accrington Observer - Town's masterplan will be vision of the future

Note the comments of Councillor Jean Battle at the end of the article

Yea I realise that Lindsey and I know you weren't having a go at the charities who have these shops, just thought I'd give a bit of background to this one as I hadn't heard of them until I got the job I now have

I've nothing against charity shops but dont want a town centre full of them, there's nothing in Accrington to attract the shoppers who want to spend their money, sad really to see the town centre in the state its in.

When I saw the headlines outside the paper shop I was silly enough to think that some plans had actually been drawn up and that something was going to happen at last. :D I should have known better shouldn't I?

When I read the article it turns out to be another non story about meetings about plans to have a meeting to make some plans.

Yes I know they do, my grandma was very much an active member of the Blind Society when she was alive but deafblindness is totally different. Our five residents are all registered as deafblind, they also all have severe learning difficulties & display varying challenging behaviours.
