Great big huge massive charity shop !
I kid you not folks . What used to be " Poundshrinker" on Broadway next to the fruit and veg shop is gonna be a huge charity shop . " Sense" have acquired the lease and shopfitting work is underway now. Great eh??

The regeneration of Broadway has now attracted the big players. Talk about specialisation!:( |

Re: Great big huge massive charity shop !
Oh we do specialise G; pound shops, charity shops and pie shops ! I am baffled that they had no other takers for that unit; the rent must be really low as it's been empty so long and it's not a bad size. It's privately owned btw, but all the same, surely we deserve better than this ???

Re: Great big huge massive charity shop !
I'll probably get shot down for this cos yes I know we have an abundance of charity shops already, but I work for Sense in one of their residential homes and we really are , for want of a better word a 'specialist' charity. For instance the home we have in Accrington is the first of it's kind this side of the Pennines, we provide a service specifically designed for providing deafblind people with a safe and secure environment to live in, and we really do need every penny we can get to keep this service going.

This isn't the charities fault, they are taking advantage of empty shops and the rebates that being a charity offer because of the mismanagement that has occurred in Accrington over the years. :o |
Re: Great big huge massive charity shop !
Oh good, I wish every shop in accy was a charity shop, I would have a great time :D
Whys everyone else so glum about it? Cheap goodies are the best, and one mans junk is another mans treasure so they say! |
Re: Great big huge massive charity shop !
Omigosh I think I'm in danger of agreeing with Less again! There must be something wrong with me but I don't feel ill. :D

How sad that such a worthwhile and necessary thing should have to be dependant on charity. It's a topsy turvey world we live in. I didn't even know we had such a specialised home in the area AccyMad. |
Re: Great big huge massive charity shop !
Perhaps if people where taught to give to charity more like in Islam for example and it was made important in families then there wouldn't be need for shops as well filling up all the lots in the towns. Most people will prefer to teach their children to save their money than to 'waste' it, so its no surprise that charity shops are so wide scale and depended upon. People seem to only give if they recieve something in return.
I remember that when I was younger we had fairs to sell junk in school, so that we could give it to a charity. Now school funding is also low in some cases that the schools need to raise money for their own equipment and it defeats the whole lesson of giving to charity in a way. |

Re: Great big huge massive charity shop !
Many people on limited budgets rely on charity shops for things, and if it benefits the charity then that is good too.
I give many things to charity shops........I don't have a lot of money to give to charity but I try to do my bit by recycling goods which are no longer necessary, but are too good to throw in the rubbish. |
