UK bans non-EU unskilled workers
about time i say. has this actually started or is it yet another proposal?
Unskilled workers from non-EU countries will be banned from taking jobs in the UK for the "foreseeable future", the government has announced. Spouses who apply for entry to the UK may also have to sit English language assessments under new proposals. The moves come as ministers unveil details of their new points-based system for migrants. About 12,000 unskilled migrants from non-EU countries in Africa, America and Asia came to work in the UK last year. |
Re: UK bans non-EU unskilled workers
So they are stopping 12,000 coming here legally. They will just catch a boat to Dover and come illegally then.

Re: UK bans non-EU unskilled workers

its too little too late i think.i mean this EU open border policy is all nice and well but slightly imbalanced. how many uk folks do u find emigrating to poland, france, italy sweden etc the traffic flow does seem to be very one way |
Re: UK bans non-EU unskilled workers
People from Poland have been the main reason our economy has continued to grow. They happily do the jobs a lot of British people don't want to because they get paid more benefits than the job will give them. The Polish work hard, good on them.

Too little too late! I don't disagree that many polish people work hard, and are proud of thier work, but what about the rest?

Re: UK bans non-EU unskilled workers
At least with the Poles they stood up to be counted in the dark days of World War ll flying in the Battle of Britain, fighting at Monte Cassino and Arnhem.

If this is only for non-EU countries it isn't going to stop all the Europeans coming here for work and sending their child benefits and tax credits back home is it?

You forgot to mention that the ex-pats that went to work in factories in Poland etc still got paid wages at a UK level. Do you really think he would have gone if he was paid the same as the Polish people working in the same plant? Oh and he will still keep his UK based pension as well. |
Re: UK bans non-EU unskilled workers
So a ban on none EU Immigrants, sounds good doesn't it? But aren't we also members of The British Commonwealth?
Should we not have a greater loyalty to the people in that than we do to the EU? Those Countries helped make this Country rich when we had the 'Empire' and I was under the impression that a large number of them are entitled to British passports. They also sent many young men to fight in two world wars, (on our side unlike some EU members), are they now to be banned from entering the 'Mother Country' or is this just going to turn out to be a very large exception to this new rule and we will still be honouring the agreements made a lot longer ago than the ones made with the EU? |
Re: UK bans non-EU unskilled workers
It just sounds to me like a load of waffle spouted to pacify the moaning masses.
