This is why we have traffic laws

This is tragic Quad bike girl is killed
How can the parents of children be so stupid and negligent?
It must be even worse losing a child when it is your own fault.
What about the poor driver who hit and killed this 7 year old?
Should the parents be prosecuted for this stupid act? Yes I know they are grieving for their loss but it is their fault as sure as they had hit her themselves.

The child should never have been on the road.

They were lucky both kids were not killed. I like how the women in the parents cat said "they both had their lights on", like it made it ok for them to be on the road.

I think it is terrible that the other driver was arrested, they should not have left the scene though as that is an offence as well.

both kids? Were there 2? I see only one mentioned in the link and don't see anything about the driver leaving the scene. Is there more of the story somewhere?

The girl and her brother were both riding their new bikes behind their father's Range Rover when the accident occurred.
now come on if this doesnt say call social services what does?!

why is it so hard for people to use common sense instead of thier wallet?

yeah the woman was probably drunk but u dont expect 7 yr olds to b driving around quads made for adults...

i dnt think the parents should be prosecuted as i think they have probably learnt there lesson. but they should be punished for it as its not just them suffering as you say, think about the driver of the car....

i just cant beleve how stupid the parents are for letting her drive it in public

shame on them... whoever they are

Although the police haven't confirmed it yet, and yes you have to ask what the hell the parents were thinking, BUT, it's a sad way to find another lunatic who drinks & drives

Its not a case of an age limit on the roads, children can ride bicycles on the road after all, its just the fact that quad bikes shouldn't be on the road in general without a licence, and presumably a 7yr old doesnt have a license.

I imagine that the parents would only be given a suspended sentence anyway, but the driver of the car still should be punished for her drink driving, which is no less of a crime, but the manslaughter should probably get a similar suspended sentence rather than a conviction, after all, how could she be expected, under the influence of alcohol or not, to know a 7yr old was going to be on the road on a quad bike! It was just as likely to lead to an accident regardless of her state.

This happened at 7.00pm!
no 7 yr old should have been on the quad bike, everyone knows they are dangerous, what on earth were the parents thinking about? especially in the dark!
as for the woman who crashed into the kid then if she was drinking she does need to be charged, and like cashman says so should the parents for letting a kid on one of these dangerous bikes
