It confuses me why this has blown up to the proportion it has. From my understanding it was not actually the MP that was being bugged, it was the prisoner. If the MP elected to visit a prisoner suspected of terrorism then surely he would have known in advance that there was a chance of the conversation being monitored.

Almost seems as though there was a motive in there from the start.

The prisoner was a childhood friend of the MP. It has to be asked under which capacity did he visit the prisoner. Did he have his friendship hat on or did he have his MP’s hat on. Mr Khan said he was visiting to discuss constituency matters, easy to say after the fact.

He cannot dispute what was discussed because he knows now, that 'they' know, what was said

I know what you are saying. Should be interesting to hear if they kept a recording or kept a log of what was said.

If this isn't a case of MP's shooting themselves in their own feet then I don't know what is.

MP's over the last several years have restricted our freedoms, removed our privacy, intruding into our personal lives as if its perfectly acceptable for the state to do so and plan to do much more with the introduction of ID cards and DNA databases.

Where were the MP's when OUR privacy was threatened? Voting the policies through parliament! So for them to question an MP's privacy being threatened, is rather rich.

Personally I don't think MP's should be monitored in this way. If you start to monitor constituency conversations then you take away the notion of confidentiality when speaking to your MP which completely ruins the point and its the most vulnerable people in society that suffer because an MP is often their last hope.
