This was aired on ITV some months ago. It's worrying that we can censer people from expressing political concerns or opinions on race and immigration, yet free enterprise can allows this to continue unabated. After the ITV airing the site owners said they had no idea about this situation but had removed the area from the programme. Yeah right.

i disagree because if we shut it down to stop perverts then shouldnt we abolish the church , playgrounds , scouts etc etc

I understand what you mean, BUT, it would be an impossibly to shut ALL churches, play ground and scouts etc. Shutting one sick senseless web site, that is ruining people's lives and giving sick werido's sexual gratification, would take 2 minutes. As I have said, they have been found out before, it's happened again!! get it off the web, and let there be lessons learned.

Shutting it down would move the issue not deal with it.

Not to mention it ruins the huge minority of peoples fun who use the site.

If there was somebody on here like that, surely you'd be advocating removing and dealing with them, not shutting down Accringtonweb?

Also, Secondlife is for 18+ year olds not 10 year olds.

Yep!! exactly. the reporter on the news signed up. Then he made a young girls profile, then he went into this USERS house, that had sex toys on the bed. he told the USER that he was in fact a young school girl. It's disgusting. As for keeping the site because people like it, well yes, a lot of pedophiles like sites where kids are exploited......shall we keep all them too?? because shutting them drives the problem away?? and because it's only for adult viewing??

This might be amusing to some and offensive to others, but this is Second Life Safari, and it's basically a load of articles that serve to make fun of/anger/satirise/disturb/highlight the weird and wonderful citizens of Second Life.

Second Life is full of some absolutely filthy stuff, but shutting it down is a bit much. I once did a big creative writing piece with some people and we met up there to discuss ideas and work together ever though they were from either side of the US. It's a good idea corrupted by the fact that humans are bloody weird.

Edit: Also, a news reporter pretending to be a child isn't paedophilia, and if a child lies that's really not the company's fault.

How do you propose stopping under 18's from accessing any of the over 18 websites? Even if it is simple pornography.

I ask again, would you be asking to shut Accringtonweb down? And are you REALLY suggesting that theres a direct comparison between sites that exploit kids and a game that has a minority of people doing sick things?

Fact is the exploitative sites will only be used for that one purpose, an illegal one. Where as the majority of people who play Second Life don't go there for that purpose.

Because just looking like a child isn't paedophilia. Also it's not that they let you become a child, so much that they let you become anything. You can program your own look. You make it on your PC and pay to upload it to the Second Life servers.

Second Life is an adult orientated site, children shouldn't even be on there, in fact, children shold be on the internet at all. The internets main key purpose, at least in the beginning was pornography, so can anyone geninely say they are surprised at the nmber of perverts on the internet?

It wouldn't surprise me if we had a few lurking around on accyweb seen as the forum declares itself 'family friendly'.

Nothing on the internet is family friendly, thats why there are stupid people on the forum who think its fine to swear as long as they replace the vowels with 1's and so on, so its still easily read. Idiots.

Its a virtual reality site, therefore its meant to simulate real life. Not only can you be a young child, but you can also be an old person. Why? Because thats what real life involves, age ranges.

hardly surprising it was on SKY News , produced by one of Murdoch's monkeys , how can anyone with a modicum of intelligence can believe anything produced by a corporation that includes the Sun and the News of the World is beyond me , this guy (Rupert Murdoch) is one of the biggest peddlars of soft porn through his newspapers, in the UK (page 3 the Sun) .
Back to the original theme of the thread , if the site is designed for over 18s and you are concerned about your children getting access .........one question "Do you know where your kids are ?" .......a question for every parent should ask themself , and if you say no , why don't you know ?

I think the owners of second life should be responsible for its content. If they can not control what is going on then the site should be shut down. I suspect second life has grown out of control for what is probably a very few people who actually work for the site.

As far as children are concerned - it is up to parents to make sure their kids are safe at all times. This means making sure they know what they are doing on the internet. Many parents do not understand PC's and the internet, this is where the problems start IMHO. The parents really should make an effort to learn enough to know if their chilr is safe in what they are doing.

I was going to take an accy holiday and refrain for a few weeks to concentrate on other things but as always you people can’t be left alone for one minute without things getting out of hand.

Blazey, please tell me your taking the ****……The original intention of the internet was Command and Control and information dispersal among the US Forces and Internal and external US agencies.

In terms of the net as we know it today it is like any other “Media” in that individuals and groups will adopt it for there own proposes, good or bad. Pornography as been around for millennia and is represented throughout history in all forms of media from rock drawings to the internet, pornography as its place in society and without it we’d most likely be a worse society in general, agree with or not it’s always going to be there as long as we have dicks.

In respect of this issue, when something offensive occurs on this site the Mods or Roy removes it. Simple as that, so there is on excuse for the owners of this site not to monitor and review offensive material and remove it immediately it rears it ugly head. End of.

The sad thing at this stage of the game is that this material is virtual; and is not currently an offence, and no matter how you react no child is featured or abuse on the site, it is the same loop hole for the violence, racism and perverted behaviour that can be found in some PC, Xbox and Play Station Games….

But don’t shout at me, speak to you MP’s and demand that action is taken against this sort of behaviour, it will only become an issue and gain the appropriate funding if its in the public arena.

Blazey is partly right. The porn industry has helped the net grow from its early days. It has also been at the forefront of media delivery as well. Porn funds many of the dodgy software and hacking sites as well.

i was pointing out that if you have a pervert on a site you dont know what they are upto behind the scenes

you cant go shutting things down just because a pervert may use it or you will have to shut everything down , unfortunatly perverts are very sneaky people and will find some other way to do their thing, im not saying its right but its near impossible to stop them but this dosnt mean we should stop trying

like others say simply kill the bastards , although you can go round shutting things down the best way to protect your kids is to watch them, i have watched programs about perverts on the net and i noticed that in most cases these kids were been left alone in their rooms for hours unsupervised and talking to god knows who on the internet.

We're saying you should deal with them, to the full extent of the law, but don't ruin everyone elses fun because of them.

We don't ban camcorders because SOME people use them to record illegal material, be that of a sexual nature or perhaps in the cinema. It would ruin the legitimate uses of it for the average law abiding person.

It's funny. Yesterday, my son came home with another child. My son said
" Mum, can I go on second life??.... it's like a sims game mum " as you can imagine my shock!! :eek: I think my reply was something on the lines of " I don't bloody well think so, it's nothing like sims..... and no, you will never be allowed on it "
Was shocked that the other child was allowed to be honest, after what I have been hearing.

But what other parents let their children do is nothing of my concern..... what my children get up to IS my concern.

you can never be too carefull when protecting our children but isnt it going too far when we cant film our own kids first christmas play or even take in a camera or face getting arrested if you take a picture of your child in the bath

my mum has photos of my first school play and pictures of me in the bath as a baby and i dont feel abused , although i do wish she wouldnt show them to girlfriends :rolleyes:

The owners of Second life will need to clean it up or decent people will stay out, and it will just get a reputation as a place for porn and perversion.

A while back I joined and spent half an hour on that arrival island. I was approached by a naked man asking 'will you be my friend?' - left rapid and never went back.

There are aspects of real life we don't want to experience in a virtual world.
A virtual world is escapism from reality but it shouldn't allow the playing out of sexual fantasy.

Yes I agree with you on this one. I was just pointing out to Cyfr, that NO, just cos you have a camcorder, doesn't mean you can use it where ever you want.

I think it is a shame about not being able to record Nativity plays at school. Recording has always been good to catch them moments forever. But it's just a sad fact of the times I guess.

You're missing the point, I can still buy a camcorder. I just can't use it for certain things that are not permitted such as the two events you just mentioned. But I can still use it elsewhere.

In the same way that sick stuff should be banned from Second Life, but the rest of people should be able to use it still.

If they're not removing it once it's reported then yes they should.

Youtube works in the same way, with 10hours of video uploaded every minute it's impossible for them to monitor everything, but as soon as stuff is reported it's removed.

Yes, maybe forcing people to sign up with a credit card on second life would A) ensure they're 18 and B) have some form of address.

Obviously people can get round this by stealing their mums or other peoples cards, but its impossible to close all loopholes unfortunately :(

It also assumes the parents aren't paedophiles but a lot who are found seem to be from a family background, not the creepy guy living on his own which we tend to stereotype them as. So it wouldn't necessarily stop the paedophiles if only parents where allowed to film anyway.
