Bike riding in a city is not a healthy option.
It exposes the cyclist to vehicle exhaust fumes.
He would be better off healthwise in the car that travelled behind him.
If he thinks that it constitutes 'excercise' he would do better having a cycling machine at home.

This is a matter of choice and weighing up the options :-

"Do I risk very little exercise, therefore opening myself up to heart failure and obesity?"

"Do I risk the exercise and risk suffering from asthma, lung conditions?"

Difficult choice ... but think the first option is probably the healthiest option.

My son now rides his bike the 6 miles to Althrincham (and will shortly be into the city centre), apart from my fear of some nutter knocking him off his bike, I think he has chosen the better option. Is also one less car on the road in the morning. Walking about in a city is just as threatening from car pollution.

We try to encourage our children to walk .. even catch the bus to school in the morning instead of mummy dear giving us a lift door-to-door. Again, if more children did this, then less traffic, and less carbon emissions, so would generate healthier walking. Difficult.

I think its dangerous for cyclists to use busy roads, especially in london!!

Going through a red light like that could have caused a very serious accident!

What they dont say is how long the light had been red for or what the traffic was like. I'm sure he didn't get to where he is today being a complete idiot. Then again, gordon brown... well... I guess it's possible :D
