Wonder how many buildings will be flying the St Georges flag today?

It's a bit weird that it was a Scot who changed the rules about flags on public buildings, which means the cross of St. George will be flying from Downing St. today, as well as many other public buildings.:)

Interesting article by Jack Straw about St. George and patriotism, in of all places the Daily Mail.

Don't let the bigots hijack St George's Day...go out and celebrate | the Daily Mail

(Not that I don't expect patriotism in the Daily Mail, just suprised to see Jack Straw in there.):D

It should be a Bank Holiday full stop, but I don't think it ever will be

Re: St Georges Day

i agree it should be a bank holiday if it was you would find that it would be the start of people being more patriotic.
people love a free day off, they could make st georges day a big event though the pc brigade would have something to say on that matter i bet.

I'm Surprised we are still allowed to fly our St.Georges flag in this day and age, it could offend.

You are right we should. We fought ww1+2 so that we could!! But sometimes I think the government forget about these things :(

And yes, I do think we should have a public holiday on St. Georges day. We have little else in this country to celebrate.

Although Gordon Brow has recently changed the rules, making it much easier to fly the cross of St. George from public buildings, as was pointed out in post #4 of this thread.;)

Re: St Georges Day

my papa usually puts a huge flag up in his garden on St George's day so i have just been next door to ask him why he hasnt put it up this year and he said 'because some nicked my prop so i have nothing to use as a flag pole'

oops i think i'd better give him his prop back :o
