Re: Pram Race to be scrapped
i went down harwood this sunday to take a friend for a much needed break from her studies at about 7pm and we left at 8.30pm because things were getting very out of control and im glad i stayed on coke so that i could drive us home
a few observations that i made were as follows the majority of the trouble was caused by people who hadnt gone out for the pram race but had infact decided to go to the local off licence and buy beer then try taking it into the pubs , these same scroats were the ones throwing cans of beer around the towngate as the pubs were serving beer in plastic containers people were speeding around in their cars and on their mopeds and i witnessed no fewer than 10 acts of stupidity which could have easily ended with fatalities all witnessed by the police but they had their hands full dealing with the scroats who were basicly hanging around outside the pubs looking for trouble one incident i witnessed involved a man who had fallen over only for one of these scroats to seize the opportunity to jump on the poor sods head and cheered on by his friends, a friend of mine went to tell the police but the police insisted that no such incident took place and left the poor sod lying in the gutter with his head bleeding, luckily a passer by rang an ambulance and he was treated on the town gate on one occasion the police were called to an incident around the corner and once they were out of sight the scroats as i call them started with the throwing of cans etc and the pcso's that were on duty instead of making their presance felt went and hid around the corner and left them to get worse i drink in harwood quite often and can honestly say i have never seen such a disgusting display of behaviour in harwood and although not from harwood myself i can say that in my opininion the majority of trouble was caused by either out of towners that had come down for trouble and the scummy folk who wouldnt normaly go out to the pub but decided to get some cheap beer from the local off licence and cause trouble i dont think the pram race should be scrrapped but as usualy the scumbags ruin it for everyone:mad: |

What a shame.
Hasn't this event been going for about 100 years? It's certainly been a long time. As you say, accyman, a few scumbags spoiling things for everyone else. |

Re: Pram Race to be scrapped
I for one am greatly disappointed and deeply saddened. I’ve been attending theses events for quite a while now and have enjoyed every one of them and so have many others. The atmosphere through out the day has been tremendous. Everyone from mums and dads with kids to grandma’s and granddad’s attended these events.
I have to agree that there has been some silliness in the past by the way of young teenagers throwing water balloons discriminately into the crowds and not caring who gets hit (i.e. children in prams etc) but I have to say, I wasn’t aware of any of this weekends agro as I returned home around 9.30 ’having spent my budgeted days spending money’. When I left - the sun was still shining and the atmosphere was still friendly. Times are hard these days ‘pubs closing left right and centre’ and it’s events like this that help our local pubs etc keep going and I’m sure the extra income on the day would have been welcomed but they cannot compete with cheap selling-out shops. It would have been nice if the selling-out shops were to have charged pub prices for there beers and then donated the extra profit to the Fire and Rescue Service Benevolent Fund but then, it’s probably not as simple as it sounds, you’ve only to get in your car and nip to asda/ tesco etc. Anyways, I’ve put some photos of the pram race in the gallery. So if you want to have a see what it was like then do. http://www.accringtonweb.com/gallery...ry.php/cat/793 Kipax has added some quality photos to his site, so check them out too. http://www.hyndburn.co.uk/ :( |

Re: Pram Race to be scrapped
sorry but fer me theres No-Way a charity event should have to be cancelled through scumbags, wherever they originate from is irrelavant, if the police cannot cope with n annual charity event, they should be asking themselves WHY? if they aint got enough men to police it, then the chief constable should get off his ass n do what he needs to do, if thats banging on government doors cos hes understaffed then so be it. but no-way is cancelling acceptable. IMHO.:(
