Well it could've been a blessing in disguise, what with the County game on Saturday.

I've been thinking about this. If scientist believe that the Creation story is a myth and that life and everything just happened with a big bang and no God involved ................ and these scientists are attempting to recreate the moment when everything came into being by hurling particles into each other at (fractionally less than) the speed of light ................ that means there have to be particles to collide. So, if this is how 'everything' began. Who created the original particles?

It hasn't collided yet, the particles are just hurtling round like the clappers building up to it.

That was when they switched it on. We may not actually feel the full effects until ages after the collision anyway. What gets me is that they have admitted they don't really know what will happen and are doing this in order to find out. It's like a toddler sticking his finger in an electrical socket 'to find out' - too late when the result is a nasty one.

The particles won't reach optimum speed until sometime in October.

It's not a matter of what scientists 'believe' Willow, it's a matter of what is actually there, and searching for what we can discover through tangible hypothesis. We can't be expected to settle with the knowledge of our existence coming from the silly and primitive story of Creation.
The whole process is much more complicated than big omnipotent man with big beard making mummy and daddy particles give birth to lots of baby particles and calling it our universe. There is the whole issue of dark matter and it's power that scientists will look into using the data provided from today. I for one am really excited about what happened today. Hopefully people of this generation will react to this like people of past generations reacted to the first moon landing; by way of inspiring new generations of scientists who are eager to find out about our universe and provide us with answers. I hope for a new age of reason and rationality, and for people to believe in science rather than stories of miracles and sacrificed goats.

Maybe something did happen and we have all been thrown into a parallel universe - ..... we will never know
