Youth Of Today
How often do we see todays youth being branded as yobs. saw this on BBC news this morning and just found the video on the BBC website.
Well done to the young man, deserves tons of praise. BBC NEWS | Health | A teenage carer's Christmas |
Re: Youth Of Today
I have so much respect for that lad, its about time that more stories like this made it into the news rather than the bad side.
In a way i think all the negative press teenagers get is just adding fuel to the fire, after hearing about all the stabbings/shootings/muggings im sure a few people have started carrying weapons "just in case", the media as usual dont help the situation. |
Re: Youth Of Today
good lad agree speedy, truth is though these stories don't sell newspapers.

Re: Youth Of Today
good and bad in all
age, colour, sex, or creed but as you say cashy its the bad news that sells |
Re: Youth Of Today
David Cormack should be very proud of himself. Though I suspect that he doesn't care for his mum for praise.
It's hard enough caring for a disabled child, but must be even more difficult when it's the otherway round. These child carers are very often forgotten, giving up what many others take for granted, a childhood basically, in order for their parent(s) to live in the community. Good for him, and for all the other local young people who aren't all out causing terror, and who get very little media coverage. |

I agree it makes a nice change to hear about it but it's not that unusual. Young people are all lumped together in the press as one large mass and that's really not fair to anyone. I work with young people a lot and the majority and by majority I mean 99.99999999999999% of them are good, decent people. In fact, just like every other age group. Just because one 35 year old injured someone we wouldn't dream of saying that all 35yr olds were troublesome, would we? |

I agree this does make a nice change.....

Re: Youth Of Today
The big question is "Can we change the rest?" Even a few stories like this can raise the spirits as well as show what the youth of today is capable of. Are we responsible for how the youth of today is or is there an outside influence as well?

Re: Youth Of Today

Re: Youth Of Today
An admirable young lad, one of probably thousands of children up and down the country saving the goverment millions of pounds by caring for their parents. But how many people watch "Breakfast TV" on Christmas Day morning? If people are going to see just what these kids and all carers do it needs to be broadcast on prime time TV!!!!

Re: Youth Of Today
I never have subscribed to the "we've nothing to do and nowhere to go brigade". Young people today have far more things to do and more money to do it than ever my generation had, we had o make or own entertainment, and we did it without causing mayhem or inconvieniencing other people. I used Rhyddings Park nearly every day and would never have thought of causing damage. Its not long ago that some one was calling for a new youth club to be made out of the old James St Club, maybe better to use the on Harvey St that some people shed blood sweat and tears to obtain
