Barnes' furniture shop fire.

Well I see the inevitiable has happened;a fire in the derilict former Barnes's furniture shop,on Church Street.
After standing empty for three years it appears someone has tried to torch the property.
Luckily the Fire Brigade was alerted before the fire spread to the adjacent properties.
When will this eyesore be demolished?

Agreed Nugget, but unlike many this eyesore has been in a dangerous state for years.Couple this with the proximity of a young people's venue and you have an accident waiting to happen.

Has it all burnt down or is it something and nothing.

Whoever owns it won't pay business rates now if the roof has gone.

Who owns New era ? Would make more sense for Barnes to become an extension of New Era, depending on costs of course. They will never be rented out as shops again, too many empty ones already which are too expensive to rent :(

The last time i looked the empty shop was full of old bits of wood for sale(very strange) so it was tailormade for arsonists.........

I knew about the fire on Friday afternoon and been past several times but not seen any sign of the fire. Must admit I haven't checked if the roof is still on though :D

Re: Barnes' furniture shop fire.

As far as I know the Fire Brigade managed to contain the fire to the inner area, the roof seems intact.
I seem to remember the property was up for sale at an initial price of £800,000 and yet as mentioned above it seems to have a sale of scrap wood etc.
I think it is time for the council to enforce an order to progress;either renovate or demolish.

Re: Barnes' furniture shop fire.

Who is the owner according to the blurb on the projected office and retail developement sign,it's someone called Aspire.
Perhaps they could Aspire to tidy the site.As the emergency services have been involved I would expect rapid action!:)

Amazing! As soon as a fire occurs it's an insurance job. Bet if your house went up in flames it would be different of course!

Where you living in there, and have lost your home?

Very sorry to hear that.

Did you see anything then, which would perhaps throw some light on what actually happened?

IMO it needed reusing long ago or pulling down & replacing.

I think it need a gutter on the overhang too, walking under it in the rain - you get dripped on. lol

You not sharing with us the owner's thoughts on how the fire could have started, and the amount of damage that resulted from it?

No?

Seems a bit pointless, telling us all you were going to meet the owner, the day after the fire, but add no further detail, damage, how they thought it started etc.
