It is very sad news, John was always the perfect gentleman, even when he disagreed with you, he was always extremely polite.
My thoughts and condolences to his family at this sad time.

What a terrible loss to everyone concerned.

John was one of the old school councillors from a time where people disagreed agreeably and I'm afraid he was in a remarkably small minority. Always the gentleman, he chaired meetings in a calm and orderly way even when things were getting a little fractious. He was a man whom I had respect for and felt I could learn things from, something which is sadly no longer the case.

My condolences to his family.

Sincere condolences to Johns family.

John was hard working and cared for Baxenden. We worked together on several issues in Baxenden.

I just hope some sort of tribute can be got together for the upcoming Area Council. John deserves lasting recognition.

Sad news. I worked with him a few years ago and remember his passion for making sure Baxenden got a fair crack of the whip from the Council. RIP

John was an honest, affable, hardworking Councillor who I can honestly say I have never had a crossed word with. Truely a gentleman who I will miss a great deal, a lovely, lovely bloke RIP and condolences to the family xx

I'm surprised there's nothing in the paper about it to be honest.

It's sad that we so often wait until someone has passed away before we express love and respect for them .

I regret the many times I could have done or said something good and kind to those who were part of my life , but held back . I suppose it's something to do with being British . We are not good at showing our feelings .

I hope the deceased councillor's wife gets comfort from the tributes being paid to him .
